NSIV Grant

NSIV received a research infrastructure grant of $3.1 million from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center. The grant will allow NSIV to refurbish and expand its current laboratory facilities over the next three years and purchase advanced analytical instrumentation. This grant is part of a larger $28.3 million award to hospitals, colleges, and incubators across the state.

NSIV Events

The North Shore Technology Council hosted a fireside chat at the Cummings Center on Tuesday 3/29 with Joe Boncore, the new CEO of MassBio. A number of VIPs were in the house and came up to tour NSIV's facilities.

The NSIV "Unmasking Event" was a great success. Over 40 members gathered for pizza in the cafeteria (some still chose to wear their masks). New members (clockwise from left to right) Ruchi Chauhan, COO of NonExomics; Jon Levenson, CSO of FireCyte; and Aletta Schnitzler, CSO of TurtleTree Labs met for the first time!

Keeping Up with NSIV Partners

Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) was awarded the $500,000 Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly Workforce Success Grant. GMGI plans to use the grant money to provide training and placement services for 80 unemployed/underemployed young adult students to become future lab technicians, lab technologists or biological technicians. GMGI will also engage employer partners including the biotechnology companies of Synlogic of Cambridge and RAN Biotechnologies in the Cummings Center in Beverly, according to the letter.

Keeping Up With NSIV Graduates

Nth Cycle has been awarded a $1 million National Science Foundation Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant in support of building a sustainable North American supply of cobalt and other critical minerals in North America. The company is partnering with a North American copper and cobalt mining company that will provide the raw material for its project and the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which will test Nth Cycle’s direct recycled lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt oxide, or NMC, in new cathodes.

MassBio announced that Governor Deval Patrick and Flagship Pioneering CEO & Founder Dr. Noubar Afeyan will be speaking at the State of Possible Conference on May 5.
