Protect your fall

Joe Hill and Shaun Veltri from Roofing and Waterproofing is using an aerial work platform, a fall protection equipment, to inspect the waterproofing at the Talley Student Union. Employees working from heights need to retake the fall protection class every three years after the initial training.

Coin for Exceptional Service

Del Lockamy and Willy Hall from the Utilities Distribution Shop received a Coin of Excellence for their outstanding customer service. A student who lost his ear pods into the storm sewer on his way to class. Del and Willy quickly responded and recovered his ear pods for him. Not long after, the student's mother, who had originally reported the issue to the service center, called back to thank and acknowledge Del and Willy for their professionalism and politeness. Apparently, the student had just received the ear pods for Christmas and was extremely appreciative of getting them back. The service center was an integral communicator between the two parties. Congratulations Del and Willy on receiving the coins and thank you for helping with such a positive attitude!

Flood sensor calls for help

To implement a lesson learned from past summer's Bagwell basement flooding, a project began to install high water alarms. To test the concept, Carmichael was selected due to its history of floods. Flood sensors were installed in March 2022 and on March 31st one flood sensor went into alarm indicating rising water within the facility. BM&O Zone 3 responded to the alarm and found the sump pump had tripped out the circuit breaker (motor failure) and water was at 3 feet and rising in the condensate pit. Breaker for the pump was reset and the team brought a second pump to speed the process of water reduction.

Integrated Sciences Building partnering

A formal "partnering" session was recently conducted in support of the new Integrated Sciences Building (ISB). Representatives from Facilities (AVC, OUA, and CPM), the College of Sciences, Provost's office, the design team (Mosely Architects, ZGF) and the construction manager (Skanska) met in-person to understand roles and responsibilities, establish expectations, and identify short term and long term strategies to ensure project success. The session was facilitated by Red Wolf Associates with Danelle Gambrell (CPM) shown here leading a discussion about campus coordination and site logistics.
