What's New at Six Feet Up 📣

As technology evolves, so too must the infrastructure driving The Linux Foundation certification courses. 💻 The update was complex and multifaceted. Learn how Six Feet Up developers: updated Flask and Marshmallow, created a more efficient testing design for new applications, built a Django application that allows users to create Kubernetes clusters through Digital Ocean, and built an application to monitor end-user shopping carts within the training website.

With OpenID Connect (OIDC) Identity Provider for GitHub Actions, GitHub Actions simply and conveniently interacts with AWS. Using an example Terraform configuration, learn how to set up the authentication and an Actions workflow that uses it. In our opinion — this approach is much cleaner, simpler, nicer and safer when compared with the old, common practice of creating an AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) user and exporting access keys to GitHub Actions secrets! 🙌

Keeping Django up to date is essential. Learn our battle-scarred tips and version-specific information that will help you navigate a Django upgrade at any level. 👉 Pro-tip: Read through the release notes for all non-patch releases at once, rather than incrementally. This will give you an overall sense of what newer features may be available — and what older techniques may need to be modified.

Projects on Deck 👷♀️
What's been keeping us busy this month:
- Healthcare organizations aggregate petabytes of data, which drives life-changing health and business decisions. We are helping Indiana’s largest healthcare institution go from using proprietary tools that are hard to maintain and nearly impossible to scale — to implementing a new world of cloud native and open source tooling which includes Airflow, Spark, Delta Lakes (delta.io) and Terraform.
- We just completed a project to help a very large community college upgrade its website, allowing for enhanced security and the use of modern and streamlined design tools. Specifically, we upgraded Plone in place from 5.1 to 5.2; migrated from Python 2 to Python 3; made existing add-ons Python 3 compatible; and implemented a new theme.
Can we help you out? Read about some of our recent projects.
