Interview with Taufiq Hanafi Leiden University interviewed PhD candidate Taufiq Hanafi about his research on the role of literature in narrating Indonesia's bleakest pages of history, namely the events of 1965-1966 and the mass killings that followed. Hanafi defended his thesis Writing novels under the New Order; State censorship, complicity, and literary production in Indonesia, 1977-1986 on 31 March at Leiden University. More.

Qaliyya; The connections, exclusions, and silences of an Indian Ocean stew
This article by Tom Hoogervorst in the journal Global Food History, traces an understudied stew known as qaliyya through the Indian Ocean littoral to show how foodways influenced each other over the centuries. It proposes an innovative focus on dishes, food names (“gastronyms”), and recipes as tools to reconstruct forgotten culinary connections. More.

Artikel in het Antilliaans Dagblad over de lezing ‘Het zevende eiland en de koninkrijksrelaties’ door Gert Oostindie; over hoe de uitdagingen op Curaçao en in Nederland met elkaar samenhangen. Met het zevende eiland bedoelt Oostindie de Antilliaanse gemeenschap (van de zes eilanden) in Nederland. Anno 2022 behelst deze gemeenschap 170.000 mensen van wie ruim 75 procent van Curaçao komt en 15 procent van Aruba. Meer.

EuroSEAS Materclass 2022
In connection with the EuroSEAS conference in Paris-Aubervilliers from 28 June – 2 July 2022, EuroSEAS organizes, in cooperation with the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), a masterclass for PhD students from European universities who work on Southeast Asia in the field of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
