A warm welcome to our new interim Director

As we said our goodbyes to our former Director, Mike Thomas, in our last bulletin, we thought it only fitting to offer a warm welcome to Craig Handford as our new Interim Director.

Craig is a long standing member of the Active Cornwall team, working as the partnership manager for Older Adults.

He will be overseeing the vision and aspirations of Active Cornwall as we strive to create our upcoming five year plan.

Look out for more from Craig in future bulletins.

Celebrating the Commonwealth Games in Cornwall

This is the year the Commonwealth Games comes to England! Here at Active Cornwall, we are starting to feel the buzz and excitement for this momentous event to be hosted here, in this country, and hope it will inspire more people to get more active and maybe even try a new sport.

Active Cornwall's Megan Hilley has written a blog for this month’s bulletin on the Games.

The Time2Move Holiday Programme goes live for Easter

We’re pleased to announce that bookings are now live for Easter activities.

Our providers are putting on dozens of sessions across Cornwall.

We’ve simplified the booking system for parents and carers by enabling them to access their unique codes online rather than via schools.

We’re also working closely with Parent Carers Cornwall to act as a first point of contact for questions relating to SEND provision.

Hopefully these steps will make the Easter programme even more successful.

UK's Chief Medical Officers publish first ever guidelines on physical activity for disabled children and young people

Disabled children and young people will be supported to be more physically active following the publication of new guidelines from the UK Chief Medical Officers (CMOs).

The guidance, which recommends daily levels of physical activity, will support disabled children and young people to improve their physical and mental health throughout their lives.

Meanwhile, Active Cornwall is supporting the national Who Says campaign to challenge negative attitudes towards disabled children and young people.

Additional funding for the over 60s Better Years programme in Penzance

Penzance Leisure Centre has been running some fantastic sessions for the over 60s as part of our Better Years programme.

Active Cornwall has confirmed that it is able to provide a further three months of funding to support the activities.

They aims to encourage people to return to activity and physical fitness at a pace that suits them.
The 3-hour slots on a Tuesday provide table tennis, badminton, swimming (occasionally aquafit), instructor-led gym sessions, chair-based and low impact fitness classes.

One participant told us: "A lovely session that I really look forward to every week. I feel that it is beneficial to both my physical and mental health. Thank you."

Drop us a message if you, or someone you know, would like to take part!
