Bush Series #2- this Sunday 3 April at Bridal Reserve, Clifton Grove.
Starts are from 10.00 - 10.30 pm at the corner of Ironbark Road and Brumby’s Run. This bushland reserve was previously known as Clifton Grove Bush, but OCC advises it is known as the Bridal Reserve. The Reserve is 1 km2 in area and is bounded on three sides by a fire trail and fences with a creek and residences on the other side. Although it is small the terrain is quite variable with several small tracks and many interesting features. It is very suitable for an introduction to bush orienteering. There will be the usual 4 courses Easy, Easy Moderate, Hard Moderate and Hard courses. The event is being organised by Harry L’Estrange. Note the map has just been updated. Please pre-enter for this event via Eventor to help the organisers- click here.
Bush Series #1, Lake Canobolas, 13 March
Our first bush event was well organised with interesting courses on a beautiful day. A big thank you to Stephen Nugent and Fiona Hawke for organising the event, which had 42 entries and 54 participants. It was good to see so many families participating. Results

Congratulationsto those club members who participated in the Great Volcanic Challenge last Sunday. Rob Bennett came 3rd overall and Ayako Kusui was 3rd in Open Women’s division.
I look forward to seeing you at the Bridal Reserve. The courses will be very interesting and good fun. Basil Baldwin (President, Goldseekers Orienteers)
Annual General Meeting
Goldseekers Orienteers AGM was held on Sunday 13 March at Lake Canobolas after the Bush Series #1 event.
President Basil Baldwin presented his report for 2021 - see below. Treasurer Margaret Wilmott advised total funds available at end of year 2021 was $20,538.15. This was a significant increase from the previous year due to extra income from organising several ONSW events during the Easter Carnival. Discussion was held on the use of this extra income - new maps, update equipment and training. The new committee was elected with only minor changes: President Basil Baldwin, Vice President Stephen Nugent, Secretary Jean Baldwin, Treasurer Margaret Wilmott, Public Officer Stephen Nugent, Committee Harry L'Estrange, Carmen King, Anna Dowling, Anna Fitzgerald, Clinton Russell, Mitch Allen, Nick Wilmott, Tom Carter, Laura Lewis-Minogue, Rob Bennett, Phillip Schwebel.
Many thanks to all on the committee. We look forward to an exciting year ahead.
Goldseekers Orienteering Club - President’s Annual Report 2021
2021 was a challenging year for Goldseekers due to the Covid 19 virus and above average rainfall for in many months. We started the year well with a street event at Warrendine and Elephant Park. This was followed by another 3 street events. Our first bush event was at Lake Canobolas we then had a gap until May due to the Easter Orienteering Carnival and NSW State Championships. During the Carnival we were involved with the Prologue and family relays at CSU. Jean Baldwin was the course setter for these. Anna Fitzgerald set the courses at Gumble for the final day of the Carnival and won the ONSW Course-setter of the Year award for her excellent and challenging courses.
We conducted two Mid-week events as part of the Easter Carnival, at Ophir South and the Botanic Gardens, these were very well-attended. We resumed our Bush series events in May and June.
Due to Covid restrictions we needed to cancel the July event, when we held an event at the Botanic Gardens in fine weather, which was very well attended. We were able to hold only one more bush event due to wet weather.
In November we managed to have 4 Park events out of the proposed 5, although one had to be postponed due to wet weather. Our attendances were less than half of those in the previous year.

Covid restrictions limited our activities with schools. However, we were able to run a 6-week program at the Anglican Grammar School and late in Term 4 at Catherine Macauley Primary School. We were also able to make a map of St Raphael’s College in Cowra.
Our final activity for the year was our award night which was held on the property of Nick and Margaret Wilmott. We were treated to interesting orienteering courses round the garden, a delicious BBQ and some yummy desserts. Several of our Juniors won State Awards for their orienteering events. This rounded off what was a difficult but successful year.
As I have said in previous years, none of these activities would have happened without the generous support of club members, particularly those on the committee. I would particularly like to thank my wife, Jean, for all the many hours she puts into the role as Club Secretary.
It is very pleasing to see so many people participate in our programme and help at events in many ways. The monthly committee meetings conducted by Zoom were well-attended, friendly and productive. The strength of Goldseekers lies in its friendliness and everyone helping out with club activities.
