HOPE SF BUILDS POWER AND POSSIBILITY

“HOPE SF brings us an amazing opportunity to build wealth and pass it on to our children”
—Dominique, Resident Consultant and Co-Chair of the Wealth Planning Team

NEW HOPE SF VIDEO CAPTURES THE SOUL OF THE INITIATIVE

Check out the newly released video that captures the rich history and bold vision of the Partnership. As Dr. Saidah Leatutufu-Burch (Former Deputy Directory for Hope SF at the Mayor’s Office of San Francisco) says “HOPE SF at its face is about housing but at its soul is the people.” Learn more about the initiative from the perspective of residents, government, and philanthropic leaders and their work to repair systematic harm on low-income, BIPOC communities.

HOPE SF: THE STORY OF NOW

The Story of Now
Download the final report produced by Social Policy Research Associates (SPR). HOPE SF The Story of Now provides a snapshot of HOPE SF residents using data from our government and non-profit partners. The report and its findings are another step toward building a culture of data across the initiative and developing a shared understanding of how to use data to better support residents.

WEALTH BUILDING FRAMEWORK, CO-DESIGNED WITH RESIDENTS, IS COMPLETE

HOPE SF Wealth Building Framework
The HOPE SF Wealth Framework provides the overarching vision and framing for the Partnership for HOPE SF. It represents the next evolution of the reparations framework (repairing systemic harm) that shaped HOPE SF for the past several years. It was co-designed in 2021 by the Partnership for HOPE SF, the Insight Center for Community Economic Development, and 13 HOPE SF Resident Consultants. It was informed by community-based, participatory research findings about economic mobility conducted by Young Community Developers in 2020. Read more about the framework here.

The new policy provides expanded preference for former San Francisco public housing residents--wherever they might live--to move back to newly built subsidized units or affordable units. HOPE SF welcomed the first families back in October 2021. Read more about the innovative policy.

SUNNYDALE PROUDLY HOSTS MAYOR BREED'S HOUSING PANEL

HOPE SF’s Sunnydale community was the site of Mayor London Breed's press conference and panel on housing in October with HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senator Wiener, and other local leaders. “California…has the biggest problems, but it also has some of the biggest solutions,” said HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge. “We just need to scale them up.
Resident Spotlight

SMALL GRANTS PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

Residents and volunteers at backpack giveaway.
All My Usos brings volunteers together to support and celebrate our Samoan community in Sunnydale, Visitacion Valley, and other southeast neighborhoods through community-based events, resources, and information. In September 2021, All My Usos used funding from the Small Grants Program to organize a Backpack Giveaway/Health Fair which provided a safe, trusted space for families to get COVID-19 testing and gain health and wellness knowledge. The event also provided access to much-needed school supplies and personal and protective equipment (PPE).

PARTNERSHIP FOR HOPE SF HOSTS A CONVERSATION WITH FUNDERS

The Partnership for HOPE SF convened more than 40 government and philanthropic leaders together with HOPE SF residents to learn about and reflect on our vision of holistic wealth-building that prioritizes resident voice, focuses on systems change and builds collaboration across sectors. The wealth-building framework was the result of a strategic design process that has deeply engaged residents.

Following a presentation of the Partnership for HOPE SF's Wealth Framework, Elizabeth Hawkins from Genentech (a HOPE SF funder) said,  "One of the things that is exciting and energizing about HOPE SF is how you have hit pause to course correct, listen to residents, and create space for them to provide constructive criticism and feedback. Very few organizations are willing to go slower to go further in this work."

We look forward to continuing this work together. We are so grateful to the resident consultants and funders for their support and contributions throughout this journey!
