Dear <<First Name>>,

Another Women's History Month has passed, but women will continue to make their marks!  By our actions or our inaction, through our voice or our silence, from our most assertive to our most gentle—our presence is part of the story of this time. The choices we make today, and in each moment, may or may not make the history books, but they will definitely leave a mark on tomorrow. Let's give it everything we've got!

To be this kind of woman, we remember who we are and how far we've come, both on a personal and historical level. We treat each other with respect and compassion because when we honor and appreciate another, no matter their station or difficulty, we uplift and empower. We find our voice, use our words, talent, and intention in a spirit of equality, compassion, and freedom.

By the way, I focus on women and girls finding and using their voice because I believe that will create the balance we need now. There is no intention to exclude or blame men and boys but we do need to be aware of the dynamic of male dominance that has played out for so long in human history. It didn't start that way. Yet, it makes me wonder about collective internalized guilt on both the feminine and the masculine that may be blocking our path. So we need to be more aware, curious, and honest about our stories through the ages to help us all, individually and collectively, make better choices for a more harmonious world. Imagine that! It's possible. It's happening!

Women's history is much more extensive than you may have learned. Here are three of many books that I have found fascinating on the topics of women's ancient and current history, their oppression, and their future. I highly recommend them! There may be newer editions, so check your local bookseller. Click image and links for more.

The Chalice and the Blade
Our history, our future by Riane Eisler
Eisler takes us back to prehistoric times, sharing women's presence in the archaeological record—information misinterpreted or more often excluded from mainstream history books. She paints a clear picture and mission that we must move from the patriarchal or domination dynamic to one of equality and partnership. An international bestseller, originally published in 1987. Latest edition 2011.  Visit RianeEisler.com.

Revolution from Within
Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem by Gloria Steinem (1992-01-05)
A Book of Self-Esteem by Gloria Steinem
It's been a while since I read this book. My takeaway was how much women are minimized and treated as unimportant in society and in everyday common language. Gloria Steinem details female suppression, intentional or otherwise, and it's effect on feminine self esteem.
A bestseller, this edition was published in 1992. A 2020 paperback edition available here.

A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence, and PowerA Call to Action (2014)
Women, Religion, Violence, and Power
by Jimmy Carter

An amazing read detailing "The world's discrimination and violence against women and girls ...most serious, pervasive, and ignored violation of basic human rights" within the contexts of religion, society, and politics. It includes a list of actions his org. supports. Jimmy Carter left the U.S. presidency in 1981 and he's still being presidential. Visit the Carter Center

DO SOMETHING:

  • Ask US President/Congress to finish some old business. These three issues have been in the works for years. I am still looking for advocacy and petition links, and will send as soon as I find them.
