It was a wonderful surprise to learn this week that three tracks from our new album Emigre and Exile were chosen for inclusion in ASCAP's New Music Friday Spotify Playlist! If you are on Spotify, check it out alongside some really amazing selections from recent album releases! We are particularly fond of Vanessa Wagner's solo piano album, "Study of the Invisible."

ALBUM RELEASE PARTY AT CONSTELLATION!!!

If you are in the Chicago area, please come out and join us at Constellation Chicago this Sunday evening at 8:30PM! We are hosting what should be an amazing party and gathering featuring some wonderful guest artists: Constance Volk, Yaz Williams, and members of Gingarte Capoeira led by the wonderful and inspiring Brazilian Mestra of Capoeira, Mestra Marisa!!!

A cool $20 gets you in the door, a copy of our new CD, and a raffle ticket for some awesome prizes, including some new merchandise, some albums from Matt and Yasmin, and even an incredibly beautiful piece of art from the one and only Constance Volk!

Constance Volk designed our album artwork. In addition to being an incredibly gifted visual artist, she is also a superb flutist and will be joining us onstage for a number during our show! She''ll also be displaying (and selling!) several pieces of her artwork that evening and will be giving away one piece as part of our raffle that evening!

Gingarte Capoeira Chicago led by the wonderful and inspiring Brazilian Mestra of Capoeira, Mestra Marisa, will be joining us for a playful game of capoeira during the evening, too! Our beloved berimbau plays a central role in capoeira and is an icon of the resistance against oppression that enslaved Africans endured for centuries in Brazil and indeed throughout the Americas. Don't miss this opportunity to witness some high energy capoeira played by some of Chicago's finest practitioners of the capoeira artform.

Yasmin Williams is an award-winning guitarist and composer/performer whose incredible album Urban Driftwood has made airwaves the world over. She'll be joining us for a brand new arrangement of one of her tunes!

Matt Ulery is our featured guest and composer of the evening, whose grand composition Emigre and Exile is both the anchor and namesake of our new album. Sharing the stage with Matt is an electric and heartwarming experience. We love playing his music, which has garnered acclaim far and wide!

EMIGRE AND EXILE, MVT. 2, "TONGUES"

This video presents the second movement of Chicago-based composer and jazz bassist Matt Ulery's epic six movement work that gives our new album its name. Subtitled "Tongues," this movement completes the first half of the work, deftly weaving through a series of angular mixed meters until finally landing on a rocking groove in 21/8 ("big 7")! We love playing this music and hope you enjoy the visceral energy of this music captured in images by our friends at Four/Ten Media!
