Our Best Of Tomorrow is Yet To Be Lived

By Michael S. Kerzner,
Chairman of the Board & Chief Strategist

The more I think about my own health and the health of my loved ones I continue to marvel in the fact that what we know today about ourselves pails in comparison to what we had to guess about ourselves just a few years ago.

Our purpose at our company is to take the guess work out of the equation. In fact, when I think back when we started just a few years ago, we were shocked to learn that drug incompatibility was a leading cause of death, and yet until recently there was not an easy way to determine the precise method of personalizing medicine. Our MatchMyMeds test has the capability of empowering people to share this information with their health care practitioners so that better choices in prescribing the best suited drug for patients are made. Our test is continuously and rigorously being updated so that the list of covered classes of medication is current. We are proud of this test and the good it is doing.

Say Goodbye To Fad Diets… Introducing FeedMyGenes

  Director of Marketing

Happy April! How are we already 3 months into 2022?! Did you go into the New Year thinking it will be a “new year, new you”? Have you been able to stick to your goals so far this year? Or have you gotten off track and told yourself you will get back on track again “tomorrow”, “next week” or “next month”?

Research shows that after one month into the new year, only 64% of people still stick to their New Year’s resolutions and after six months, only 46% of people are still successful in sticking to their goals. Believe it or not, your genetics may be influencing your decision to be motivated or not! Finding out your natural motivation tendencies allows you to design a program that will work with rather than against your intrinsic motivations.

Are you A Worrier or Warrior?

By Dr. Robyn Murphy, ND & Amanda Kauffman

They say stress is the silent killer.  Whether it is relationships, finances, or exams, many aspects of our lives can be stressful.  In certain circumstances, stress can be beneficial, by propelling us to accomplish difficult feats and allowing us to flee dangerous situations.  However, often stress is an unwanted, unpleasant, and counterproductive feeling that has broad implications on one’s life and one’s health. Although many techniques have been suggested for stress reduction, some people find certain stressors unbearable and suffer adverse emotional and physical health outcomes as a result.  Although stress management is within an individual’s control to some extent, specific genes also impact one’s ability to cope with stressful situations and the associated emotional and physical manifestations.  In this brief column, we’ll describe the COMT genetic pathway and how it affects one’s tendency to deal with stress.

Let’s Talk About The Liver

By Elaine Novik and Aaron Goldman

The function of the liver is to filter out our blood and metabolize, or break down, different substances in our bodies. These substances may be chemical toxins found in the food we eat or the air we breathe; they may be metabolites created in our day-to-day biological processes; or they may be nutrients or medications that need to be metabolized. Nutrients are converted into useful molecules that your cells can use for example as an immediate energy source or stored for future use. Toxins (including medications) are broken down into smaller, harmless units and are removed from the body so as to avoid having too much which can lead to unwanted side effects.

These metabolic pathways would not be possible without enzymes. Enzymes are a type of protein that increase how fast molecules are modified. Without these proteins, metabolic processes would take much longer to complete, or may not take place at all. A faulty enzyme in the liver could potentially result in a build-up of toxic chemicals or too little of an important energy source.
