Taking a taxi?

It’s not surprising that many people, particularly women travelling by themselves, consider taking a taxi to be the safest way to make a journey by public transport. They take you from where you are to where you want to go, operate 24/7, and are governed by rules and regulations to help ensure safety. As in any aspect of life, there can be risks, but problems are rare. Even so, there are a few hints and tips that are useful to follow when choosing to travel by taxi.  #ashfieldsaferstreets

#TogetherForever

When I was 12 I met my first boyfriend, I fell in love and believed – or was told, we would be together forever. We stayed together for 7 years and at 18 fell pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, what I didn’t realise that during these 7 years my life would be turned upside down.

A Year in Numbers: NIDAS Family Team (March 2021 - 2022)
Here's some feedback from clients who have been supported by the NIDAS family team:
Case Study:

Kim was referred to our Family Support Worker wishing to access support with regards to her own experiences of Domestic Abuse and to understand how domestic abuse had impacted her son.

Kim initially struggled to implement boundaries and manage challenging behaviour from her son. Kim stated that she lacked the knowledge and confidence in these areas. Kim also expressed a deterioration in regards her mental health around she trauma she had previously experienced.

During one to one support sessions the following work was completed – Domestic awareness sessions, exploring how domestic abuse impacts on children and parenting, managing challenging behaviours, boundaries/routines and how to implement these along with work focusing on confidence and self esteem. Our family support worker was also able to liaise with mental health services in order for specialist therapeutic support to be put in place for Kim.

Through the support Kim accessed with our family support worker Kim stated that her confidence had grown immensely and that she was now able to implement boundaries without feeling guilty and that her child’s behaviour has greatly improved as a result. Kim was able to use resources with her son around managing anger and exploring emotions. Kim stated that as a result of the support she felt confident in her own abilities as a parent and felt more empowered as a mother and a survivor of domestic abuse. Kim also expressed how the support had gone on to have a significant impact on improving her mental health and wellbeing and feeling more in control.
What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy offers a space for clients to express their thoughts and feelings, with the opportunity to use artwork as a means of exploration and expression. The impact of the traumatic experiences of DV can often mean clients develop PTSD and struggle with anxiety, depression, paranoia, self-harm, and difficulties sleeping.

Clients can use sessions to help them process what they have been through and for them to explore their trauma, supporting clients in taking back control in their life, and finding a way to cope with their mental health struggles.
