April 2022

We always knew that our library patrons are what make the Platteville Public Library so special, but the last two years have really shown us how much we miss our patrons when you aren’t here. We’re so excited to be celebrating National Library Week (April 3-9) with all of you again this year. Thanks for sticking with us and supporting your library through all kinds of adventures and changes.

Closings

The library will be closed Sunday, April 17 for Easter.

April events

The most important person in the library is you!

We wouldn’t exist without your support and library usage. Join us for treats and coffee all day on Monday, April 4 as a small token of our appreciation.

Free replacement cards

Has your keychain card been loved to pieces? Did your wallet card vanish on you? Bring in your old card or an ID to replace your library card for free in the month of April.

Let’s talk books

Stop by the library to pick up a copy of one of this month’s book club titles:

  • Kid’s Book Club is reading The Unicorn Rescue Society series by Adam Gidwitz

  • Teen Book Club is reading The False Prince by Jennifer Nielsen

  • Adult Book Club is reading Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, HER Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed by Lori Gottlieb

Storytime returns!

In-person family storytime is back starting April 12. Bring a stuffie and a blanket and join us Tuesday mornings at City Park. Watch our Facebook page for any weather-related notices.

Need even more stories in your life? Call our Dial-a-Story at 877-907-8081 to enjoy a short tale whenever you’re in the mood. New stories are added regularly, and a new story in Spanish is added each week. ¡Un cuento nuevo en español cada semana!

Are you a creative person who loves to draw?

Our annual all-ages bookmark design contest runs through the end of April. Winning designs will be professionally printed to be used with our upcoming summer library program. This year’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities.”

Are you a creative person who loves to write?

It’s National Poetry Month, and we’re celebrating by posting poems in our Main Street windows all month. Drop your poems off at the front desk, and you might see your words up on display!

Do you like seeing other people being creative?

Every Platteville School District art student will have a piece of art exhibited at the library starting April 9. From four-year-old artists to high school seniors, the creativity and skill on display will astound you.

While you’re checking out the school district art, make sure to also look at the Peeps dioramas on the first floor. We’re always amazed at what our patrons can do with a marshmallow Peep!

Meet an author

Meet Carin Thoms, author of the children’s book Sara Goes Fishing.
