Student Learning Surveys - Parent Participation Needed - Nelson & Creston

The Provincial Government's annual Student Learning Survey is now open for parents www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey/access.htm. Some of you completed the survey in January - thank you so much!

If you didn't get a chance to complete the survey in January, we would appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete the survey now. The survey doesn't take too long to complete, and we hope to have responses from all of you.

To complete the survey:

  • Go to www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey/access.htm
  • Under the section Direct Access – no logon number required select:
    • District: the name of your child’s district
    • School: the name of your child’s school
    • Language: the language of your choice
  • Complete the survey by clicking on the appropriate circle to answer each question.  Move to the next set of questions by clicking on the right arrow in the bottom right corner of the screen. Click on the left arrow to navigate backwards.
  • When you have finished the survey, you will get a message “Thank you for sharing your views”.

Attending School and COVID
COVID-19 continues to circulate in our community and we encourage everyone to follow public health guidance to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 in our school.
This includes:
  • Completing a daily health check before you come to school. You can use the BC COVID-19 SelfAssessment Tool.
If your child is unwell, they should not be sent to school.
  • Monitoring yourself regularly for symptoms of illness. If you are sick, stay home. Seek testing when recommended.
  • Following provincial restrictions in place. The BCCDC continues to provide trusted information about COVID-19, including how to protect yourself, your family, and your community and what to do if you suspect you have the virus.
Rapid Test Kits
Most of the kits went home with students or were picked up before the break. If you didn't get your kit, we still have it here for you and you may come in any time to pick it up in the office in Nelson, or if you are in Creston, from Linda or Sherry.
For more information, please go to https://wildflower.sd8.bc.ca/sites/default/files/rapid-test---letter-to-famlies20220215.pdf

Remember, it can take 3 to 7 days after infection for there to be enough antigens to be detected by the test. If a person with COVID-19 tests too early after they become infected, the test result can show as negative; this is called a false negative.

Rapid antigen tests are less sensitive than PCR tests. This means that the chances of a false-negative test are higher with rapid antigen tests than PCR tests. The sensitivity of rapid antigen tests is higher for people with symptoms than for people without symptoms.

Most of the kits went home with students or were picked up before the break. If you didn't get your kit, we still have it here for you and you may come in any time to pick it up in the office in Nelson, or if you are in Creston, from Linda or Sherry.

Health and Wellbeing
While we all continue to navigate disrupted routines and changes as the pandemic continues, it’s important we look after our mental health and well-being. Don’t wait to reach out. School-specific resources are available from erase. Information for individuals is available from BCCDC.
