WATERSHED STAKEHOLDER NEWS

Watershed Updates

The last couple of months have been busy ones for Shoal Creek Conservancy, with progress made in the implementation of our Watershed Action Plan.
  • Shoal Creek Conservancy, in collaboration with TreeFolks and Cirrus Logic, planted 400 tree saplings in the riparian buffer north of 10th St.
  • SCC has been developing a maintenance pilot program for green stormwater infrastructure called Rain Garden Adopters.
  • We will kick off this program in the coming months when we take over the maintenance of three existing rain gardens in the watershed.
  • Austin Transportation Department will build 3 new rain gardens along Shoal Creek Boulevard; SCC will plant and maintain through the maintenance pilot program.
  • SCC making plans to install 2 rain gardens and 1 riparian buffer planting in the Pease Park area.
  • Since January 2022, The Other Ones Foundation has completed 5 cleanups in the Lower Shoal Creek area between Lady Bird Lake and West Avenue, removing over 1775 lbs of trash.
  • SCC has hosted 4 public watershed cleanups since January 2022 where we leveraged over 75 volunteer hours to remove trash and recyclables from the Creek. The Shoal Creek headwaters at Hwy 183 have been a major focus.
