“I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.” Douglas Adams

Guest Author

I’m trying something new, introducing new author friends and acquaintances. My first guest is Dee Britt. From her website:

Dee Britt grew up in the small town of Anadarko, Oklahoma. When she wasn't playing basketball and running track, she was active in the United Methodist Church, where her parents were youth group leaders. As a young adult, Dee fronted various bands. Her songwriting revealed a passion for story writing and eventually led to her first book, Fireside: The James Johnson Story. The setting for Fireside, and the flavor of its characters, rose out of Dee's experiences with her “day job” as a physical therapist to countless assisted living center patients. While this book is not reflective of any one person or setting, it is an effort to give back – and give a voice – to those whose history is often overlooked simply because they are older or infirm. To her patients who have taught her about the important things in life, Dee sends a big thank you.

I read Fireside: The James Johnson Story. It is a very interesting look at a man in the sunset of his years, and the struggles and prejudices he endured while growing, then later marrying a woman of a different race.

Dee has partnered with Quill Hawk Publishing and Amy Le for book 2, Fireside: The Wes Lyons Story, coming later this year: All that glitters is not God. Wes Lyons is a colorful celebrity televangelist, who has experienced the pinnacle of success and the valley of despair. He lands in Fireside Assisted Living Center, with nowhere else to turn. Can Wes regain his status of success and prominence?

Shadowed Souls

Cover release from Wild Rose Press. Many thanks to cover designer, Tina Stout who also designed the cover for Peculiar Activities. I am expecting a release date in August or September. More here including a book trailer video!

A young detective finds paradise … and a man seeking vengeance.

Detective Henry Ike Pierce joins his colleagues to celebrate a destination wedding in Hawaii. Amid beautiful scenery and new friends, paradise has its surprises. A dying man on a beach utters seemingly disjointed words that may be a warning. Henry finds himself pulled into another maelstrom, pursuing elements of Miomir Kurić’s criminal enterprise, while a man seeks revenge for his father’s death, one caused by Henry Pierce.

His responsibility for the death torments Henry. The man’s lifeless face and staring eyes haunt Henry’s dreams, and his internal turmoil imperils his colleagues and endangers his loved ones. A friend warns him that our worst memories and grief hide in the shadows of our souls. This young detective’s guilt casts a long shadow.

A Gentleman from the Darkness

I’ve had a great time pulling this short story together. This story is and origin story populated by characters that may show up in the Detective Henry Ike Pierce series.

A wolf in gentlemen's clothing tracks his prey.

It is 1968, and the secretive Group of Thirty has resisted the new Czech regime installed after the Prague Spring. Professor Valentýn Hrubý leads this campus group, fighting for the reforms crushed by Russian tanks. Hrubý keeps lists to help his forgetfulness, and the authorities find one of these lists, one that shows the names of his associates. The new government hires an assassin to track and dispose of the group’s members. Dressed in a three-piece suit and topped by his ever-present black fedora, Karanosz Tasev stalks his prey.

It is Friday, twelve days before Christmas, and the wolf has arrived.
