In October 2021, we supported legislation introduced by Councilmember Amir Farokhi to create a weekly Atlanta Streets Alive on Peachtree Street, funded and hosted by the City of Atlanta. Thanks to the 459 of you who contacted your Councilmembers in support!
After hearing from institutions and property owners on Peachtree Street with concerns about the weekly frequency, Councilmember Farokhi reintroduced the legislation, this time for a monthly Atlanta Streets Alive.

🚏🚍Campbellton Road Transit Project: #ProtectTheLanes
A line of paint doesn’t do enough to prevent people from driving cars or trucks in bike/LIT (Light Individual Transportation) or bus lanes. Physical protection — think concrete barricades, raised curbs, and posts — makes these lanes safer. It organizes streets better for everyone, from kids riding around their neighborhood with friends to people behind the wheel.

💵👟♿🚲🛴#FundSafeStreets: TSPLOST Vote is May 24
Have you ever wanted more sidewalks, bike/LIT (Light Individual Transportation) lanes, and safer streets in Atlanta? On May 24, you will have the opportunity to vote on ballot measures to dedicate $460M over five years toward vital transportation projects, as part of an overall $750M infrastructure program. Read more on the City’s webpage.
The last round of funding for projects was adopted before the City created the Atlanta Department of Transportation. Without accountable leadership, many people were disappointed with the results. This time around, the project lists appear better vetted from a cost perspective and were selected based on data reflecting safety, equity, and mobility guideposts of the ATLDOT strategic plan.
Our recommendations call for the City of Atlanta to prioritize spending on sidewalks and safe streets for people. There’s $196.5M for sidewalks and trails and $108M for safe streets projects and protected bike lane projects, coming to 66% of the total.

🍑👟♿🚲🛴🛹🛼Peachtree Street for People

Deep-pocketed yet narrow veins of opposition to safe, complete, people-centered streets must not be allowed to dictate the design of public spaces.
After learning that the Peachtree Shared Street pilot would be removed in March, we joined advocates in calling on the City of Atlanta to demonstrate its commitment to creating a Peachtree Street for people. Now it’s almost May, and it’s time to regain momentum and make the next steps for this project official.

It’s also time for the City of Atlanta to provide a status update and timeline for the Baker Street two-way conversion project approved by voters and Atlanta City Council. We join the Atlanta Downtown Neighborhood Association (ADNA) and others in calling for action on Peachtree and Baker Streets. Here’s our letter to the City calling for action on both projects.
