Working together to prevent a fall

Gabino Bautista and Kyle Juris from the Trade Shops are demonstrating how to properly set up a ladder by ensuring that the ladder is at a minimum of 3 feet above the upper landing surface and is secured by a person at the bottom. They also demonstrate how to use the ladder safely by maintaining three points of contact on the ladder at all times. Before beginning any work, choose the right ladder for the job, complete a pre-use inspection of the ladder and check that it is in good condition.

A kind word from Dr. Katharine Stewart

Dr. Katharine Stewart, Senior Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs, shared a kind note in regards to the Facilities Division with Doug Morton, AVC Facilities:
"I want you to know how often I am struck with a deep sense of gratitude for your team throughout the Facilities Division. You all do so much to create a beautiful, functional, supportive, and exciting physical space for us to work and to do all the things we need and want to do in support of our mission. I notice it when I'm outdoors, appreciating the landscaping and our outdoor workspaces. I notice it when I'm indoors, appreciating just what it takes to keep so many buildings functioning well in every aspect... You all do this work so well, with such talent and care and dedication and skill, that sometimes the work is almost invisible. So I want you to know that to me, it's NOT invisible. I see that talent and care and dedication and skill, and I love working in a place where, even though I don't always run into more than a few of your team in a given day, I am grateful for all of them."

Supporting the university mission

On April 12, 2002, a dedication ceremony was conducted for the new Plant Sciences Building. The event was free and open to the public, joining state officials, university leaders, donors, and friends to celebrate this exciting milestone for the N.C. Plant Sciences Initiative (PSI). The Plant Sciences Building supports the university's mission by providing an innovative space that includes: 80,000-gsf (gross square feet) of research labs; 16,000-gsf of BSL-2 and BSL-3 greenhouses; 17,000-gsf of shared conference space; 10,000-gsf of partner labs; and a 10,000-gsf Collaborative Hearth, co-working spaces, and cutting-edge equipment. Congratulations to all of the Facilities staff involved, who helped bring this next great building to fruition!
