Extended Hours for Visitors at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum
Beginning Monday, May 2, the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum will resume regular hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Hours had been shortened during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Visitor hours for the State Archives, located in the building, will be Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and the second Saturday of each month, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Join Us for Afternoon Tea at the State Museum May 7
Get ready to pinky up and enjoy your choice of teas, sweets, and savories—petite sandwiches, scones and cream, tarts, and more—on Saturday, May 7, at 3 p.m. in the James River Café at the ND Heritage Center & State Museum.
Enjoy a fashion presentation by nationally acclaimed designer Norma Baker-Flying Horse and Tea Talk by Exhibitions Manager David Newell. Live music will be performed by harpist Debi Rogers. Top off the afternoon by visiting the Fashion & Function: North Dakota Style exhibition.

Research Family History Using Census Records
The National Archives recently opened the 1950 federal census records to the public, which has excited family history researchers. Did you know that our State Archives holds the 1885 territorial census, as well as the 1915 and 1925 state censuses in our collections at the ND Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck? North Dakota-related census records can be viewed virtually or on microfilm in the Archives reading room.

Nominate a North Dakota History Teacher of the Year
The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History annually honors exceptional K-12 history teachers in each of the 50 states. A national winner is selected from among the state winners. The award is open to anyone who teaches grades K-12 American history, including state and local history. Any individual familiar with the teacher's work, such as students, parents of students, and colleagues, can nominate a teacher.

All is Grass and Clouds, Forever Exhibition
All Is Grass and Clouds, Forever: The Art of S.D. Nelson is a free exhibit featuring the work of award-winning writer and illustrator S.D. Nelson. This exhibit includes colorful artwork and vignettes from the production of several of his children's books, which focus on the cultural heritage of Native American communities, along with a selection of traditional objects he fashioned and embellished.

Learn About Fort Buford State Historic Site & the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center
Visitors to Fort Buford State Historic Site will see original military fort features including a stone powder magazine, cemetery, and officers’ quarters. At the nearby Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center, take in the exhibits and walk an interpretive trail showcasing the marvelous views explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark would have encountered as they passed through the area in 1805 and 1806. Don't forget to shop for jewelry, books, and regional pottery in the Museum Store.

$450,000 in Cultural Heritage Grants Awarded
The State Historical Society recently awarded $450,000 in Cultural Heritage Grants for the coming biennium to 20 eligible organizations in communities throughout the state. Supported by the North Dakota Legislative Assembly, Cultural Heritage Grants provide grant funding to nonprofit organizations including local museums and historical societies as well as city, county , and tribal governments. Eligible projects include capital improvements, exhibits, special projects or events, education activities, and collections.
