Clap Your Wings for Our Newest Preserve!

Hays County is excited to announce the upcoming purchase of Sentinel Peak Preserve, the County's largest conservation easement and the first project funded under the 2020 Hays County Parks and Open Space Bond. This is a big milestone in our process of creating new parks, open spaces, conservations lands, and other recreational opportunities that will be treasured by generations to come.

The purchase of Sentinel Peak Preserve is expected to close by April 29, 2022.

This beautiful 530-plus acre property located just west of Wimberley will serve as a Golden-cheeked Warbler habitat preserve, a federally listed endangered species that is included in the Hays County Regional Habitat Conservation Plan.

The County will also plan for this riverfront park to include low-impact swimming recreation and other activities to ensure the conservation and environmental protection priorities of the preserve. Hays County is grateful for the The Nature Conservancy in Texas who assisted with securing the property to establish this preserve and for allowing the incorporation of limited public access.

More about Sentinel Peak Preserve is available on our website and other proposed project updates will be shared as information becomes available.
