MISSION UPDATE

This spring, we’ve added more specially trained animals to our animal assisted therapy programs who will help more people find healing on their journey to wellness. They show us that giving back to others is healthy, inspiring and fun way to live. We want to say “THANKS” to all the animals and their handlers who teach us that life is about balance. Caring for the mind with problem-solving games, getting lots of exercise and giving love goes a long way in fostering positive relationships. Click to learn more about our impact.

ANIMAL ASSISTED ACTIVITY

The animal assisted activity programs were super busy last month. On the East Coast, the healing mini horses doubled their monthly impact last month. Since they’re the only certified therapy mini horses in the Florida panhandle, we’re starting to see an uptick of facility visit requests. In the South, the Newfie Therapy teams visited with over 2,000 first responders and medical staff. They’ll be expanding into the Northeast this year and will participate in next National Newfoundland Club of America Conference in May.

ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY

On the west coast, JJ, Paddy, Sunny, Tucker, Mama and Blue Sky have been specially trained and certified as therapy mini horses. They’ve started visiting over 100 doctors, nurses and medical staff twice per month at San Bernardino Hospital in Southern California. In the Midwest, Cully and Strider passed their canine advocate test with flying colors and are now helping crime child victims with PTSD go through the judicial process. 1 FUR 1 and its partners are thrilled to have expanded canine advocate services outside of Michigan state and now these services are available free-of-charge to Ohio residents of Medina County.

THANK-A-THERAPY DOG

Any handler or pet owner that has experienced the power of the human-animal bond can start a fundraiser for an animal that has made profound difference in their life. As the end of the year is approaching, we're filled with gratitude to the 4-legged heroes that walk around us. Especially, our very own founding member, Ripley. Due to advance age, he is retiring from official duty but will make appearances at special events.
