Morehead Writing Project Muster

To MUSTER is to assemble for inspection, service, etc. It is also the term you use for a group of peacocks and as the purpose of this contact is to both conduct a census and strut a bit it felt fitting.

Please - at a minimum - complete this quick survey so we get a picture of our active teacher-leader community and the needs of that community. We completely understand if you are not in a position to even think about more at this time. We have all been teaching and living through this pandemic too.

Here is a glimpse at some of the work Morehead Writing Project in progress (and some opportunities too):

  • Site Director Deanna Mascle and OSI Co-Director Leslie Workman led 11 educators through the 2021 Online Summer Institute. Help spread the word about the 2022 Online Summer Institute. Reach out to Deanna or Leslie if you or someone you know NEEDS the 2022 OSI!

  • Another year of successful Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards adjudication. Complete the survey if you are interested in expanding that work in exciting ways that will benefit our site and student writers.

  • Small Poems: Great Writers is rapidly drawing to a close but if you are interested in involving your students in the final days sign up now. There are some great invitations if you simply want to mark National Poetry Month with some writing.

  • Power Your Story Journalism Camp will return in 2022 and will be back on campus as part of the Summer Arts Academy. There are scholarship funds available specifically for Power Your Story campers provided by the School of English, Communication, Media and Languages. Help us spread the word please.

  • Hindman Settlement School and Morehead Writing Project won a Building A More Perfect Union grant from the NEH to fund the Root Deep, Grow Tall collaboration with several Eastern Kentucky school districts to create project-based learning humanities units in which students develop passion projects in art, music, history, foodways, or culture to preserve and celebrate what connects us as humans and Americans. We are currently selecting the cohort for this project.

  • The Just Write Virtual Writing Group continues to meet weekly to write together. Recently the group has joined in the Small Poems: Great Writers community and this summer will participate in Write Across America. Sign up for the group to receive the weekly invitation to write and join us when you are able.

  • If you are interested in Write Across America or Teens Write Across America then please complete the survey.

  • Last, but not least, if you have access to a person or organization willing to take on some print-on-demand anthology and/or t-shirt work with mailing included reach out.

We hope you have the best end-of-year available to you and wish you a rejuvenating summer. Please complete the survey and reach out to site leaders Deanna Mascle, Leslie Workman, Stacie May, or Seth Thatcher if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions.
