Fire Damages Elgin Mobile Home

300 Block of Lucille

Elgin, IL – On Wednesday, April 13, 2022, just before 7:00 p.m., members of the Elgin Fire Department responded to the 300 block of Lucille Avenue for a report of a possible structure fire.

Responding fire companies found a double wide mobile home with heavy smoke pushing out of the building.  The first crew arrived on scene in just under 3 minutes. Fire crews deployed two hand lines to extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control approximately thirty minutes after the arrival of the Fire Department. The home suffered extensive damage. Initial damage estimates are in excess of $50,000. Firefighting efforts were challenged by two non-functioning hydrants

The home was unoccupied and being rehabbed at the time of the fire. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries due to the fire. The home was red-tagged as it is uninhabitable and Code Enforcement was notified for follow-up. The Elgin Fire Department Fire Investigation Team is investigating the cause of the fire.

A Tip from Chief Cagann:

Make sure you have properly installed and maintained smoke detectors in your home and/or business. Smoke detectors are the first line of defense during a fire event. Test smoke detectors each month and make a habit of changing the batteries twice a year, like when you change your clocks.
