Have you joined Read, Ride, Run?

Earlier this month, we kicked off our very first Friends of the Elkins Public Library Read, Ride, Run fundraiser and we're excited to see people participating! Not sure what this event is? RRR participants seek sponsors who donate money for the participant to read, ride their bike, or run. We love that this is an activity you can do at pretty much any age and either as a team or an individual. All proceeds go fund programs at Elkins Public Library, especially the upcoming summer programs for kids.

We've made it super easy to sign up, too. The easiest way is to sign up online (made possible through our partnership with Elkins Community Network). This also makes it possible for your sponsors to donate to your account online. You can also come into the library to pick up a paper registration packet that includes instructions and a paper log. Final logs and money are due June 3 by 6 p.m. at the Library. Winners will be announced on June 6 and prizes will be available at the Library on June 8.

We hope that you and your family join this fun event. We'd also love to see teams form from local businesses or organizations! Another way that you and your business can help is to donate swag. We are working to get swag and prizes and would love your help!

Upcoming closings

We will be closed Friday, April 15, but open Saturday, April 16. We will also be closed May 30.

New Branding

Did you notice our new logo? Our friend Lynn Francis designed this for us and did a complementary design for Friends of EPL. We love how the colors are similar to our building and the graphics represent the many things available at our library.

Board meeting April 18

The Library Board of Directors will have their quarterly meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 18. More details, including the agenda, will be available soon and will be shared on Facebook.

Support Friends with Amazon

Did you know that Friends of the Elkins Public Library has an Amazon Smile account? You can support Friends through your Amazon purchases simply by designating Friends as your chosen charity and when you shop, make sure it's from smile.amazon.com. Amazon will then donate a percentage of your sales to Friends to support the Library. Don't worry, we can't see what you order or how much! In fact, Friends will get a quarterly deposit and it won't have any donor names attached at all. Learn more at our donor link

Our Writing Class is Growing!

When local author Linda Rigsbee approached us about teaching a writing class at the Library, we were excited to say yes! We're even more excited to see it grow. The class meets 10 a.m. to noon every second Saturday and has a different theme each week. Linda hopes it soon turns into a writers critique session, too! The May 14 session will be about learning how to create a character when writing.

Naturals tickets available

The Every Soul Matters ministry (homeless ministry) is hosting a fundraiser with the Naturals baseball team 7 p.m. June 3. Tickets are $10 and you can purchase them at the Library during regular business hours. We are also a drop-off location for gently used/new reader glasses for the program.

Robotics Lab available

Now that eCybermission is over, we are still going to host a Robotics Lab that is open to all Robotics members who want to come practice or catch up with each other. Robotics Lab is available the first and third Wednesday of each month at 4:30. Tinkersquad will continue to meet on the second and fourth Wednesday.

Summer Reading Program coming soon!

Can you believe it's almost time for our Summer Reading Program? The program is 11 a.m. every Thursday from June 16 through July 21. We already have a ton of amazing and fun events planned and will announce a more detailed schedule soon. There is no need to register ahead of time. You can pick up the reading logs and materials at the first session. It's going to be great!

Harry Potter night July 23!

Who loves Harry Potter? In honor of Harry Potter's birthday, we are co-hosting a fundraiser with Nellie B's, Elkins Community Network, and the Elkins Parks Committee. We will have concessions, games, and showing the first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone! All this is taking place July 23 at Bunch Park (Elkins Community Center if there is rain). We will share more details later but wanted you to be able to mark your calendars now!

Elk Excursions this Summer!

We are so excited to learn about the summer program being developed at the Elkins Public Schools! We will be working with the schools, IEEE Robotics, and Elkins Community Network for several fun trips to the library, reading programs, and more. Part of their program will be called Elk Excursions where they go out into the community to learn more about what is available, including programs at the Library!

Cookbooks on Clearance

A couple of years ago, Friends of EPL put together a cookbook with recipes submitted from local community members. We have some left and they are on clearance! Visit us at the Library to purchase them. At only $5, they are a great gift idea, even to include in a gift basket representing Elkins!

History Project Needs You!

We've had an amazing number of submissions for the Elkins History Project and need some volunteers to learn how to scan in the information and upload them to the website. Please contact Audra at AudraBell@elkins.arkansas.gov to learn more.

OverDrive being retired; download the Libby app!

The legacy OverDrive app will soon be retired and our digital library will best be enjoyed with Libby. Libby offers the same collection of digital titles from our library, but with new features we know you’ll love:
• A unified bookshelf for all your loans and holds
• Tags to categorize your books
• Push notifications
• Preferences to see only the content you like
• Support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Wish List syncing across libraries and devices
• And more!

Weekly events

We have several ongoing events that happen weekly at the Library!

Yoga on Tuesdays

Yoga with Danielle hosts free yoga classes at 6:15 p.m. every Tuesday. Each month she shares the new schedule on her Facebook page. We also share on our Facebook page.

Storytime every Thursday morning!

Our storytime is a fun time of reading and crafts. It is every Thursday at 11 a.m. and there is a different theme each week.

Knitting Club Thursday evenings!

A group of ladies meet every Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Library to knit, crochet, or do any other craft!

Reminder: new Saturday hours

We have new Saturday hours every week! We are now open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday.
