The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Professor Feroz Mahomed Swalaha is one of DUT’s dynamic and passionate professors whose work in the field of Biotechnology continuously looks at finding alternate solutions for water treatment and safety through his research work.
The Head of the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science, at the DUT believes in excelling in this field, having started out his career in applied microbiology, and proving his research mettle by recently obtaining his C2 NRF rating, a sterling accolade for the university and DUT community at large.

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently appointed its first female President of the DUT Convocation, Ms Zama Mncube after being voted for in the Special Convocation Annual General Meeting.
Her duties include presiding over AGMs and CONVEX meetings and her term of office is four years, expected to end in 2025.
The DUT Convocation is a statutory body of the University constituted by the institutions alumni including those of the former M L Sultan Technikon and Technikon Natal. The Convocation plays an important role in the University, representing the interests of its members with respect to the University.
The Department of Food and Nutrition: Consumer Sciences gives insight into the exciting, new rebranding process of the Rendezvous Restaurant as well as the new eco-friendly packaging and meals to go.
The restaurant needed a fresh colour pop, a trendy new vibe and look with a new tagline aligned with DUT and the Faculty of Applied Sciences branding. Besides the rebranding of the Rendezvous Restaurant, it also entails new packaging of meals which are eco-friendly and Home Meal Replacements (HMR) which entail convenience ready to eat meals on and off campus.

The Siyaphumelela 2.0 Project at the Durban University of Technology hosted a two-day KwaZulu-Natal Node Regional Meeting at Coastlands Musgrave Hotel in Durban on Monday, 11 April 2022 and Tuesday, 12 April 2022.
The team engaged with colleagues from the Walter Sisulu University (WSU), University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) on Holistic Student Support (HSS) implementation and practices.
