APRIL NEWSLETTER 2022

The beakers for Ukraine sold out in 24 hours and have almost all been posted out to you kind people who bought them. £15 of each £20 pot is being given to the DEC appeal and I will confirm when it is all complete. Thank you, it’s good to feel we are doing something, however small and these pieces of pottery will remind us for many years of this dark time in European history.
April has arrived with some crazy weather after such a gentle sunny late March – hail showers and disturbing wind that will hopefully settle soon into gentle welcome rain for the garden. It is wedding  present season so Rory has been throwing large bowls and platters for celebrations from Aldeburgh to Australia. Please do remember our wedding list service too.
I am largely painting this month and several more people’s kitchens now sport my tiles. The client and I work closely to envisage the effect they are after with preliminary sketch and exact quote etc. These murals are really enjoyable to paint but taxing too as the measurements need to add up and tally with a diagram for the tiler, each tile marked on the back and need careful fixing (and occasionally spares). It is demanding but very satisfying work with such a big effect on people’s daily lives .

I fear my ancient mother whom many of you know and have seen around the pottery, has been ill and now stuck in hospital with no visitors so we family are becoming painfully aware of the awful toll of Covid on the welfare of the elderly and their disenfranchised family. So I lost a week in Suffolk and may well be distracted over the next few weeks but will work around the clock to fulfil orders. Potting is great therapy as I know many of you have discovered and the Spring flowers bring huge joy. I did an off the cuff interview for 10Radio locally today talking about our Ukraine fundraiser and realised how I’m not quite myself when I briefly felt relief that I have just returned from the hairdresser’s…for the radio!? May will find me more on the ball and this newsletter not so late, I hope. The blue and yellow flag that we all recognise nowadays flies defiantly next door and we are planning a riotous Easter egg hunt in the churchyard.
Warm wishes to everyone,
