Initiative by the Scots Kirk
Christ Church has been contacted by the Scots Kirk concerning an initiative that it is setting up. The context is that a number of families in and around Lausanne are hosting or planning to host refugees from the war in the Ukraine. The Scots Kirk wants to help by providing a space in St Andrew’s House for them to gather a few afternoons a week, to meet others in the same situation and perhaps learn some French and get advice on living in Lausanne.
The plan is to make this initially two afternoons a week (Thursday and Sunday) starting on 28 April.. The Scots Kirk already has a number of volunteers and there are other interested parties from Our Lady of Faith. At the outset, this initiative will be funded by donations and from the Kirk’s own funds. And so the questions for the members of Christ Church are as follows:
-
Do you want to be involved with this initiative?
-
If you do, could you become a volunteer to help with a rota of staff for the two afternoons? (Training will be given but initially they just need people to welcome and be available.)
-
Do you have any experience of dealing with refugees? For example, they need expertise in teaching basic French.
-
Could you donate of money or clothes to help resource the Day Centre? They are also looking for donations of basic laptops, phone chargers and a television.
If you are interested and can help in any way, please contact the Rev. Gillean Maclean at:
