Faith Climate Action Week Activities

This weekend, Sylvania UCC will be joining many others through Interfaith Power and Light in marking a Faith Climate Action week that includes Friday’s celebration of Earth Day that began 52 years ago.  Demonstrating our care for the Earth will include:

  • On Saturday, 4/23, in the sanctuary, the 6:30 p.m. showing of the documentary film “Youth v. Gov” (with popcorn supplied by our youth), and right after the movie, a follow-on discussion with Toledo’s Terry Lodge, an attorney who is very actively involved in a wide range of legal cases related to environmental issues.  Cookies and snacks will be provided by the Green Team.
  • On Sunday, 4/24, at 9 a.m. in the chapel and available on-line, we will welcome Mike Ferner, former Toledo City council member, mayoral candidate, author and activist.  He leads a discussion that will include the Lake Erie Bill of Rights, Maumee River runoff impacts, effects of H2Ohio, and more.
  • Following the 10 a.m. worship service, including a scavenger hunt, making of stepping stones to be used in our native plantings around church, and in planting seeds for “pizza” gardens.

The Green Team invites everyone to join us as we celebrate care for God’s creation this weekend!

Pre-register with Joycelyn Degener

Facilitated by Rev. Joycelyn Degener and Rev. Diane Christopherson, BCC, as we practice raising our consciousness and increase our knowledge and skills in offering spiritual care, compassionate presence, and accompaniment to others.

April 27, 2022, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. in the chapel

If you picture the rest of your life with places to see, things to do, and friends and family to spend time with, you probably picture health and wellness to go with it.  That's where Body Restore classes come in.  Pam Christensen is offering 3 classes (9:30 on April 27, May 11 and May 25) in our chapel  with health education and wellness movements.  Every and any body can come for simple but thorough movements, many from a chair, and smart reminders how to care for our bodies.  Questions or to sign up, just email (no text, please) pamjchristensen@gmail.com.  It will be FUN!

Bible Study

continues on Thursdays at 7PM!  We are starting a new unit on "Interpreting Hebrew Poetry," so it's a great time to join the discussion, even if you haven't attended before.  No prior knowledge required.

Storytelling Day

Plan now to attend our next Growing Forward in Faith All-Community Event!

We have many diverse storytellers coming to share with us.  Hearing others' stories firsthand helps to increase empathy and debunk myths.

Children up to age 18 will receive a free work of multicultural literature to take home!

Adults also find this to be a meaningful and eye-opening event.

Please spread the word and invite your friends and neighbors!
