News & Updates for Good Friday, Easter Weekend and the Coming Week

Good Morning YUM, it's Thursday of Holy Week today, the night when we remember Jesus' last supper with his disciples. The night when we remember that Jesus was betrayed by one of his closest friends. A night when we remember that despite the horror that God was about to go through in the next 3 days to forgive our sin and defeat the power of death, he still gave his disciples the meal that we take to remember that we are one body because his body was broken for the world, and his blood was poured out to bring all things together in heaven and on earth and under the earth. After walking in the sorrow of our journey to the cross, remember the completeness of God's action to bring salvation to all parts of creation.

The image below is a reflection from an Anglican priest friend of mine named Fr. Kennith Tanner. It’s a powerful a reminder of assurance on the other side of Good Friday.

This weekend and next weekend we have a number of activities coming up that you should be aware of:

|| Good Friday Service at Eden Mennonite with Crossroads and Eden Mennonite Church

We have two joint services coming up this easter season. I believe it is so important for us to gather with other congregations from the larger body of Christ after we've spent the last 2 Easterners navigating stricter COVID-19 restrictions for everyone's safety. I encourage you to wear masks if that will make you feel more comfortable. The service is at 10:30 and will include communion.

|| Yarrow Easter story walk

Starting at 9 am in Yarrow the stations of the cross will be set up around town. They are an opportunity for the town and people around the Fraser Valley to come and walk through the significant events of Holy Week (the week before Jesus’ crucifixion) and reflect on how it has transformed history. Let’s pray that people would meet God in this expression of the Gospel.

|| Easter Sunday Service at Yarrow MB on April 17

We've returned to the tradition of Easter Sunday together with Yarrow MB Church.
This year our joint service with Yarrow Mennonite Brethren will include 9 am breakfast in the church gym, and a 10 am service upstairs! Come ready to celebrate that the life of God and the power of resurrection have overcome sin, darkness and death! Easter is a celebration for the whole church and good news for all of creation! Amen.

|| Special Guest Speaker & Camp Squeah on Sunday, April 24.

On the Sunday following Easter (the Second Sunday of the Easter Season) Ministerial Council has invited the director of Camp Squeah Rob Thiessen to share the signs of hope that he's seen through the challenges of the last 2 years. Rob was very excited to say yes to our invitation! This Sunday will start an Easter Season series on the body of Christ working together!

At the end of the service, we'll have a special offering to support YUM families who can't join us at Squeah on Mothers Day weekend without financial help. Any surplus from that offering will go directly to Camp Squeah as they rebuild momentum in their first summer at full capacity in two years. Please bring cash, a cheque or label an eTransfer specifically as a special donation to Camp Squeah.

|| CMU Spring Concert

If you enjoy choral music or your are learning to enjoy choral music CMU’s free spring concert is coming up. For more information and to watch live or the recording follow this link: https://www.cmu.ca/community/support/springatcmu

|| Ukraine Fundraiser

A special Ukraine fundraiser for Hungry for Life dinner will be held at Eden Mennonite on April 30th at 6pm. See the poster below for more details.

Prayer Requests

|| Please keep Dave & Elaine Pankratz and their family including Yvonne Wiens in your prayers as they support Dave in his stroke recovery.

|| Also hold Susan Nickel in prayer as she mother had a stroke last Saturday and isn’t eating much. We’re not sure how much time she has left with us.
