May Offerings
Generating Joy through Movement

“When you let the pleasure of movement be your guide, you access your primal nature, intuition and creativity.”

~ Debra Joy

Beloved Yoga Friends,

It has been proven that all types of movement revitalize our bodies and minds. Moving our bodies is healthy and offers a wide range of benefits – however we do it. Movement allows us to generate joy and enhances our quality of life.

Some benefits of moving our bodies are:

  • Releases endorphins and helps relieve stress and tension
  • Allows us to take a break from everyday challenges and responsibilities
  • Improves the health of bones and lymphatic system
  • Allows emotions to move through our bodies
  • Provides an outlet for self expression
  • Strengthens the connection we have with our bodies and enhances pleasure

Gentle flow yoga and qigong inspired yoga are movement based practices that energize the body and calm the mind. They invite us to come into our bodies,  connect our movements to our breathing, and cultivate a sense of joyfulness. By moving our bodies first, we can transition with more ease into stillness practices like restorative yoga and sitting meditation.

This month, I am delighted to be offering classes and 1:1 sessions designed to generate joy through movement.

I hope you can join me!

Love,
Lauren Amrita

Sun Breaths

Generate joy with simple Sun Breaths. Here's how to practice:

  1. Begin in Mountain pose or in a comfortable seated position with the back upright and spine long. Relax your belly, then take 5 to 10 complete breaths, using your full lung capacity.

  2. Inhale, and slowly raise your arms out to the sides and overhead, bringing your palms together. Then exhale and slowly draw your palms down your midline until your thumbs rest at the center of your chest.

  3. Synchronize your movement with your breath so that one full inhalation brings your arms all the way up and one complete exhalation takes your arms all the way down. With each breath, focus on filling and emptying your lungs completely.

  4. Repeat this for several rounds. Then pause and place one hand on your belly and the other hand on your chest, relax your body and soften your breath. Feel your heartbeat, and connect with the joy of your own internal flame.

“Don’t move the way fear makes you move, move the way love makes you move. Move the way joy makes you move.”
