Many of the most popular and well-known cleaning products, toiletries and cosmetics contain ingredients that are / can be harmful to the aquatic environment – some with long-lasting effects.

They often end up being washed down the plughole, ultimately ending up in our rivers and seas. Not all are biodegradable, and many are not removed from the water in sewage treatment works before being discharged into a river.

Take a look at the small print on your household bottles. From hidden plastics to toxic ingredients - are you unwittingly polluting our rivers to keep clean?

How to Act for Eden

1. Make a promise

With ten promises on offer, there’s something that everyone can do.

2. Keep at it for 2 months

It’s not too long to seem really daunting but is long enough to create a new habit and way of life.

3. Report back at the end

If you’ve kept your promise, the numbers you’ve pledged will be added to our ever-growing grand total that will show the world the impact that you and many others like you have made our rivers.

Why do we need to Act for Eden?

Eden's rivers are our lifeblood. We rely on them for clean water, food, leisure, health and our well-being. They are a precious resource that is under serious threat from us – from the way we live and the everyday things we do.

It’s time to Act for Eden

We can all make a small difference to our everyday lives that will add up to a BIG impact on our rivers. Everyone can get involved - spread the word and the ripple will turn into a wave!
