Summer Student Internship Opportunity

 Utah Geological Survey Hazards program is offering volunteer internships for Weber students summer or fall semesters for 1 or 2 credit hours.

Internships are performed remotely from the comfort of your computer and are good introductions to geotechnical geologist jobs.

 Jr. Geologists and Field Technician positions are for full-time and part-time work.
Looking for individuals who have a strong work ethic, sound understanding of geology, a willingness to do field work, doing labor, and work in a team setting.
Requirements:
- Must be able to hike long distances in remote environments
- Must be a self-starter and self-motivator
- Be comfortable working alone outside
- Have basic mechanic skills (i.e.: field repairs)
- Be a team player
Skills:
- GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS)
- Know how to use a GPS
- Know basic first aid
- Be able to hike for 8+hrs a day, for multiple days

This free webinar, featuring two Geoscientists without Borders® (GWB) humanitarian projects, provides information about the challenges and ways forward for implementing hazard early warning systems in data sparse locations to protect vulnerable populations. Our speakers will discuss geophysical methods carried out to build a robust database aimed at predicting natural disasters, such as landslides and earthquakes, ultimately to improve existing models and advance warning times for populations in high-risk hazard locations.

COVID Changes to Testing on Campus

COVID-19 Testing (updated 03/18/2022)
As the demand for COVID-19 testing on campus decreases, we are making the following changes to our campus testing resources.
- Drive-thru testing is available in the Dee Events Center parking lot. Pre-registration is required beforehand through testutah.com. Select the Ogden testing location at 4400 Harrison Blvd. While you do not have to select a specific testing time, you must pre-register for the day you'd like to be tested.
- The Department of Public Safety has a limited number of take-home testing kits available to members of the campus community who are symptomatic or who have been identified through contact tracing as having high exposure. Test kits can be picked up from the Public Safety Building Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., until supplies run out.
- COVID-19 testing at the Student Health Center and Shephard Union on WSU's Ogden campus has closed.
Free testing opportunites are also available at coronavirus.utah.gov. It is imperative you take your temperature and self monitor prior to coming to campus for classes. If you have a fever or other COVID-19 symptoms, stay home.

 Rutile is the main ore of titanium. This mineral can range in color from gold to black and can grow in many shapes, ranging from prismatic to fibrous to complex branching shapes.
