Roomies. In 1967, just over 70% of US adults lived with their spouse. In 2021, that number stood at 50%. As more Americans delay marriage (or don’t get married at all), the share of adults living with unmarried partners has increased from just .4% to 8% over the same timeframe. More Americans are also living alone or with nonrelatives (aka roommates) today.
