Support Faith in Action Bay Area leaders as they launch a historic voter outreach campaign in San Francisco. Throughout the elections season this year, our leaders plan to engage 20,000 voters in deep conversation about their experiences and struggles with housing, as well as their hopes and dreams for their city.
In these conversations with voters, Faith in Action Bay Area leaders are working hard to dispel the common myth that San Francisco's housing crisis is caused solely by a lack of housing supply. They are challenging the belief that we can build our way out of our current reality, in which low-income families are being displaced at alarming rates.
To this end, Faith in Action Bay Area, along with Supervisor Dean Preston's office and the Democratic Socialists of America, are sponsoring an Empty Homes Tax ballot initiative. The initiative would tax thousands of vacant units in the city, especially those being used solely for investment purposes. The revenues collected from this tax would fund subsidies to seniors and low-income families. Check out our press coverage at 48 Hills and the San Francisco Chronicle.
This ballot initiative is the result of months of dialogue between Supervisor Preston's office and our directly impacted leaders, many of whom are at risk of being evicted and stand to directly benefit from housing subsidies.
