NEWSLET

Rachel Rogers "Mini" Correspondence

Letter from the Editor.

Bonjour Y'all!

I read that on a breakfast plate at a croissant place I visited this morning in MYRTLE BEACH, SC.

That's right, I am on the road and just wanted to pop in and say hi! I created this "Newslet" because it's just a little bit of news.

It's been a whirlwind of a week since I last sent a newsletter to you. I took a red-eye (or two) to Savannah, GA and upon landing, hit the historic city in a hop-on hop-off tour bus narrated by a man who knew perhaps too many dates. His mind is just plugged full of numbers. Good for him, ya know?

Savannah is one exciting town! It's right along the Savannah River and was founded by James Oglethorpe, who founded Georgia. The people of that town are simply obsessed with him and his four principles/rules/laws/ideals. Honestly pretty interesting because he didn't believe in slavery OR lawyers. If you want to learn more, I can come over to your house and give you the tour based on what I remember and while verbally describing the landmarks.

Enough of that because I went to Columbia, SC. I'm going to call Columbia the Spokane of the East. It felt so much like Spokane in some respects, I felt like I had to get back to my dorm room to study Bach or something.

Everyone in Columbia had more suggestions of things to do in Savannah and Charleston than they did Columbia. Poor Columbia.

All I'll say is the watershed system was fascinating. I needed a few more months to take it all in.

Oh, this is a work trip btw. I am doing work and having work lunches and emailing and driving and wearing work clothes and stuff.

Now, I am in Myrtle Beach. When I first heard about Myrtle Beach months ago, I got so excited. Then people started telling me that it was the Seaside of the Carolina Coast. Yuck. And Myrtle Beach might not be what you're expecting, but it is the mini golf capitol of the world and I am having so much fun here.

  1. I am warm.
  2. I constantly look like I've been in a wind tunnel.

I saw real life turtles swimming around in a man made pond and I also maybe saw a dolphin in the saltwater marshes. Do dolphins swim solo? I really don't know...

You know what they have here in Myrtle Beach that no one suggested we do? Rent a Jet Ski®. Missed opportunity for sure.

There are sharks in the water here. If you are ever here, follow these two tips:

  1. Don't swim early morning or late evening because that's when the sharks are up near the waterline feeding on fish.
  2. Don't swim under the pier if people are fishing.

I've eaten a lot of seafood that I had never heard of. What's a grouper fish? I still am not sure. Tilefish? Idk but I had some on top of pasta and it was delicious.

I had some shrimp and grits too. I don't love shrimp but grits are okay. I'm not going to go out of my way to eat grits but I am really excited that they don't suck.

Other than that, I've just been staring at a bunch of billboards for lawyers and driving my boss and myself to ice cream shops.

Off to Charleston this morning. Still so much to see (and hopefully we’ll see an alligator!!).
