FACTUAL FRIDAY - April 15, 2022

Last week, we launched a new series called "Factual Fridays". It seems many people read it with great interest and, "in fact", it reached nearly 4,000! We are also having a great response to our SpeakUpWasaga.com survey. WBRA is not just "a small group", as the mayor likes to call us, and is growing daily.
FACT: Our SpeakUpWasaga.com survey has hundreds of responders and it's a resounding 95% who said YES to wanting public engagement BEFORE the sale of taxpayer-owned beachfront properties.

FACT: As a follow-up, WBRA sent this letter to Mayor Bifolchi this week.

Mayor Bifolchi Town of Wasaga Beach

Dear Mayor Bifolchi,

RE: The Wasaga Beach Beachfront Development

As you are aware, the Wasaga Beach Ratepayers Association Inc., has undertaken a survey with respect to the significantly important beachfront development.

The survey can be found at:
https://speakupwasaga.com/

This is a significantly important development because of the future economic opportunity this offers for our Town. It also will create future enjoyment of the World’s Longest Freshwater Beach for tourists and residents which rests a lot on what actually ends up being developed at the prime beachfront lands the Town purchased in 2015.

You have stated on several occasions that there will be no further public engagement for this development since this was implemented by Mayor Smith and Council during the last Term of Council.

Regardless of what you think with respect to what the taxpayers/residents in our town actually want, our survey results to date clearly indicate an overwhelming and dire need for the Town of Wasaga Beach to hold open forum public meetings “before” selling the beachfront properties.

On the following question, 95% responded “YES”:

Should the Town of Wasaga Beach hold public meetings before selling the beachfront properties to Bayloc Developments?

95% simply cannot be wrong.
Questions need to be answered and debated, with this current Council, given the distinct lack of public information so far during the negotiations, first with Slate Asset Management, and now with Bayloc.

So, we are requesting you to proceed with a true public engagement meeting to respond to the questions and listen to the comments of your tax paying public who you represent, prior to any sale.

A speedy response would be appreciated so we can advise our members and the general public in this regard.

Yours truly,

Faye Ego, President,
Wasaga Beach Ratepayers Association Inc.

As of the date of this publication, no response has been received from Mayor Bifolchi.
