SPECIAL NOTICE: Emerson Hospital Parkinson’s Wellness Classes - Link here to check out three FREE Zoom programs for patients and caregivers. These are each eight weekly sessions starting at the end of April. The programs include Dance for PD, Circuit Training, and SPEAK OUT!
 
SPECIAL NOTICE: Gleason Knitters - 10:30am 1st & 3rd Fridays of every month Gleason Library - Find new inspiration, exchange techniques or ideas, see a different or new yarn or favorite pattern, or impart a favorite trick you learned. Bring whatever project you may be working on. If you need help in knitting or crocheting maybe we can help. If you knit, sew, crochet, stitch, applique, bead weave, or do any other creative pursuit that’s portable enough to bring along - come and be craftily social. Tuesday, April 26 Restaurant Review: Longfellow’s Wayside Inn - Van departure TBA - The Wayside Inn in Sudbury is America’s oldest continually operating inn and was once a rest stop for revolutionary heroes. You may drive on your own or sign up for the COA van. Van fee $5 payable to driver on the day of the trip. Only 12 seats available on the van. Call the COA at 978-371-2895 to register by Tuesday, April 19.
 
Wednesday, April 27 Mobility Stretches to Combat Arthritis - 1:00pm St. Irene - In this workshop (exclusively low intensity mobility exercises), certified personal trainer Paul Connolly will review a series of stretches (chair, standing, and floor-based) to improve flexibility and decrease pain. Time will be allowed for a brief Q&A at the end of this in-person program. Call the COA 978-371-2895 to register by Wednesday, April 20.

Thursday, April 28 Feel Good Yoga - 8:45am Brick Building, 97 School Street (thru Thursday, June 2) - With mindful stretching, students can gain flexibility, reduce tension, and improve range of motion. You will need a yoga mat and water. The use of yoga blocks and straps is offered and encouraged to provide extra support and offset limited range of motion. Monday, May 2 Watercolor Studio Workshop - 12:45-2:45pm Brick Building, 97 School Street (thru Monday, June 6) - Explore the many dimensions of watercolor, wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, transparency and opaqueness. Spontaneity, imagination, and interpretation will be combined with techniques of composition, line, value, and perspective. All skill levels welcome! $70 for residents 60+ subsidized by the COA. Tuesday, May 3 Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum - 1:00pm via Zoom - Learn how President Truman shaped the highest office of the land, the successes and failures of his Presidency, and how has history viewed his administration since his death. Presented by Harry S. Truman Library and Museum Education Director Mark Adams. Register for this presentation and discussion by calling the COA at 978-371-2895 by Friday, April 29.

Saturday, May 7 Dementia Caregiver Stress and Self-Care - 10:00-11:15am; repeats Wednesday, May 18 5:00-6:15pm Town Hall or Brick Building - Sponsored by Carlisle Rec - Instructor is Olivia Evans, CDP, CMDCP. This 1-hour interactive program is for anyone - caregivers, family, friends, neighbors, professionals - who interacts with persons living with dementia. You will learn the basics of the disease and its progression, what is normal vs. what may be dementia, how to approach stress, and avenues for self-care. You will walk away equipped with resources and tools to feel supported, knowledgeable, and confident, no matter your role in their life. Cost is $15 for Carlisle Seniors. Link here to register.

Tuesday, April 26 Turtle Talk - 6:00pm via Zoom - Presented by the Concord Library - Ben Phillips, a graduate student at the University of New Hampshire in the Wildlife Biology and Conservation program, will introduce the freshwater turtle species found in New England and cover some background information about freshwater turtle biology and ecology. The presentation will also cover the landscape and environmental factors that place turtle populations at risk, the methods that have been used to monitor turtle populations, and potential steps for the future of freshwater turtle conservation.
