Literacy Chicago has on-boarded a new staff member! Maya Gluzman (they/theirs) had been volunteering for Literacy Chicago as a program associate since August 2021. They joined Literacy Chicago to fulfill a part-time volunteer requirement for Florida State University's gap year program, but quickly came to call Literacy Chicago home. As a volunteer, Maya co-taught an Adult Literacy course with Secretary of State Award winner, volunteer Betty Hurder. The course, American Trivia, is lively and fun; students play a game of Jeopardy to assess what they have learned. Maya also assists during classes, solving technology issues, subbing for other teachers, writing curricula for new courses, and helping with administrative work. They are also on the Literacy Chicago Associate Board of Directors helping to prepare for our upcoming gala.
Outside of work, they enjoy reading, writing, cooking, fashion, sightseeing (and eating) around Chicago. Maya is looking forward to continuing to work at Literacy Chicago with Joanne and Rich!
