Parents & Guardians,

I am very proud of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students as they have persevered through the past week of CMAS testing. They worked super hard! Our 3rd and 4th grade students will wrap-up testing on Monday, and our 5th grade students will finish on Thursday. We will also begin doing the make-up tests next week for those students that have been absent.

It was great to see so many of our families at the SVVSD Art Show at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. St. Vrain’s Unframed Student Art Show will continue through Sunday. The event is free and open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. A big thank you to Ms. Mocilac for her hard work to display as much Niwot Elementary art work as possible. We have amazing artists and I hope you all have an opportunity to stop by the fairgrounds before it ends.

We are excited to celebrate Earth Day at Niwot Elementary! We sent home a shout point email this past week to explain the details and how to have your student entered to win one of the 100 tree saplings we will be giving away. If you missed the email, please see below for more details. I am excited about the writing and pictures that already came in today. This weekend would be a great time to do something to help the earth and then bring your picture and/or writing to school next week.

Also coming soon is the Scholastic Book Fair. Please see below for the important details and volunteer opportunities. This event is always a favorite for our students and we are super happy to be able to offer it this year. Thank you, Ms. Kelly, for all of your hard work to make this happen for our students and families.

The students are very excited for the Mwebaza Jog-a-Thon coming up on May 2nd! Mr Peterson and I are really hoping to get some pies thrown in our face! How do the students make that happen? If there is a pledge received from every state in the United States then it will be a reality. See below for more details.

Have a great weekend and please let me know how I can support you.

Sincerely,

Nancy Pitz
Principal

Dear Niwot Elementary Parents & Guardians,

Help the Earth and win a tree!

In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, we are going to work together to help the earth this month!   Our school goal is for students to do small acts of service or simple activities that can make a difference for the planet.  Help your child capture those acts of service or write about them and get entered into a drawing to win a tree sapling!

Take a picture of your child/children engaging in one of the activities listed below and have your student bring that printed picture to their classroom teacher.  (Include their name, grade and teacher name on the back.) Alternatively, your student could write a few sentences/paragraphs about ways we can take care of the earth and why it's important.

Below you will find some sample ideas but we also look forward to seeing the creative ways in which you think we can help the earth.

  • Plant flowers, trees, vegetables, shrubs... anything!

  • Pick up trash around your home/neighborhood

  • Walk or bike instead of driving in a car

  • Compost your food scraps.

  • Use less plastic and replace it with a different material; use your water bottle rather than buying plastic ones

  • Help your family recycle

  • Other ideas? Snap a picture or write about it and submit it!

Please submit these pictures or writing on or before April 21st to be entered into a drawing to win a free tree sapling. On Earth Day, April 22nd, 100 lucky Niwot students will take home a tree that needs to be planted in the ground right away, and taken care of with love, water and sunshine!  The tree saplings range in size from 6 inches to 3 feet.   The varieties include Colorado Blue Spruce, Eastern Redbud, Douglas Fir and Red Maples.

Thank you for your support as we celebrate Earth Day!

Niwot Elementary’s Scholastic Book Fair is almost here!

From April 25th - 28th, students will have the opportunity to shop for their favorite books and supplies during school. The book fair will also be open after school on April 25th - 27th until 4:30pm. All purchases will benefit Niwot Elementary - we greatly appreciate your support to make this event a success.

We still need volunteers! If you would like to help out during the fair, please email Molly Walsh at fundraising@niwotptac.org

Here are a few important reminders:

1) . The main method of payment for students at the Book Fair is eWallet, a safe and secure alternative to cash. Simply create a free account to add funds and/or invite family and friends to contribute so your child can select their own books. Any unused funds can be spent at The Scholastic Store Online or to fund a future eWallet. Get started with eWallet at https://tinyurl.com/niwotbookfair.

2). If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair until May 4th. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school! Learn more about online shopping here

Scholastic book flyers and eWallet information were sent home with your students this week. As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Ms. Kelly
