Easter Sunday

But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him...’”

Mark 16:4-7a NLT

The grave where Jesus’ lifeless body was placed was sealed and guarded. The disciples were fearful and fractured not knowing what to do next. Jesus’ death brought a profound sense of uncertainty to those who knew him best. Hope was a distant memory.

On the third day after Jesus’ death, very early when the sun had just risen, the women found the tomb not empty but occupied by a young man dressed in a white robe. Speaking to the women, he said, “He has risen! He is not here!” The resurrection brought a wave of excitement, hope and ultimately a profound sense of clarity!

Jesus was alive. How could this be? Hope was renewed! Now that Jesus had risen from the grave, showing Himself to His disciples over 40 days by many proofs, the disciples had clarity of understanding and eventually purpose and mission.

Jesus’ death and resurrection provide salvation, life and hope to all who believe. The Holy Spirit, filling every believer, gives power for the proclamation of the gospel story. This gospel, which cannot be told apart from the resurrection, will be told and retold to the end of the age, giving hope to all who believe!

“He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today.
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart.
You ask me how I know He lives, He lives within my heart!”
