The EURAXESS Biennial Conference took place in Nantes, France on 23-25 March with the aim to deliver stimulating content and trigger lively debate around the latest EURAXESS and policy advancement, creating a perfect environment to exchange the best practices and facilitate cohesion among the network members. This was the first EURAXESS biennial conference ever that EURAXESS Africa participated in.

The conference was the perfect occasion to allow the members not only to give visibility to the network achievements, but also to share insights on creating supportive, inclusive and healthy environments for excellent research. The conference also gave a platform for discussion on how to improve the attractiveness of research careers and how to protect the well-being of researchers, while ensuring EURAXESS remains fit for the digital age.

We wrapped up the conference with new linkages and dynamic ideas to further support researchers and connect you to Europe!

The Republic of Tunisia joins Horizon Europe, the world’s largest research and innovation programme

The European Commission and Tunisia have signed the agreement granting the Republic of Tunisia the association status to Horizon Europe, the EU’s research and innovation programme (2021-2027). Tunisian researchers, innovators and research entities can now participate in the €95.5 billion programme, under the same conditions as entities from the EU Member States. The Horizon Europe Association Agreement will start producing legal effect after its entry into force that is once Tunisia completes its ratification process and an exchange of diplomatic notes takes place between the Commission and the Tunisian authorities.

ERC webinars for researchers from Africa

Two ERC webinars (one in English and one in French) have been organized jointly with the EU Delegation to the African Union on March 16 for researchers from Africa who wish to apply for an ERC grant. The webinars will include representatives from the African Union Commission and the African Academy of Sciences. Angela Liberatore, Head of the Scientific Department at the ERCEA, along with ERC grantees and evaluators will provide information on funding opportunities and some useful advice on how to apply for an ERC grant.

The European Commission has launched the ‘European Research Area for Ukraine' (ERA4Ukraine) portal, a one-stop-shop for information and support services to Ukraine-based researchers and researchers fleeing Ukraine. The portal brings together initiatives at the EU level, per country and from non-governmental groups. It aims to help affected researchers find housing and job opportunities, facilitate the recognition of their diplomas, and offer other services. The ERA4Ukraine portal is launched on the existing EURAXESS network, which supports researchers by connecting more than 600 centres and 43 national portals across the EU Member States and countries associated to Horizon Europe.

Postdoctoral Fellowships 2022 (MSCA-PF)

The Marie Skłodowska Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship programme (MSCA-PF) is a highly renowned European funding scheme. It offers talented scientists the unique chance to set up 2-year research and training projects with the support of a supervising team. Besides providing an attractive grant including mobility, family and research allowances, it represents a major opportunity to boost the career of promising researchers. The submission deadline of proposals to the European Commission is set on the 14th September 2022 and successful research proposals selected for funding may start in May 2023 at the earliest. The European Projects Platform (2PE) – Bretagne initiated an original action towards potential candidates for the MSCA Postdoctoral fellowships (MSCA-PF). This action aims to increase chances of success for motivated fellows by offering dedicated support from both scientific and technical staff to write an excellent research and training project. The European Projects Platform (2PE) – Bretagne and academic institutions in Britanny are thus looking for excellent postdoctoral researchers with an international profile willing to apply for a Marie S. Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship with a competitive proposal in 2022.

Postdoctoral Fellowship Training Scheme for Incoming Postdocs to Malta

(PF2MT)* supports travel and accommodation expenses for experienced researchers willing to submit a proposal with Maltese entity host for the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships call with deadline the 14th September 2022 (MSCA-PF-2022). The support will be in the form of a lump sum grant and it is for the participation of the researchers in the one-day MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship training that will be held on *6th July 2022 *in Malta.

Researchers, from any nationality and any age, that meet the eligibility and mobility conditions, may apply through this scheme. The training is funded and organised by the Malta Council for Science and Technology hosting all Horizon Europe and MSCA NCPs in Malta. The training will enhance the proposal writing skills of the researchers and increase their chance of success! Supervisors from MT host entities are welcome to join the training too

UJA Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) Hosting Offers

The University of Jaén is willing to host post-doctoral MSCA-PF 2022 applicants according to the following potential positions at the UJA.

Pre-application procedure

Interested applicants (PhD holders) should send their CV, Motivation letter and Summary of project proposal (250 words) to the UJA potential proposal supervisor by the hosting offer deadline. Please, take into account that only candidates that meet the MSCA-FP 2022 application requirements (such as the so-called ‘mobility rule’ or the maximum previous research experience) will be considered for proposal supervision.
