Tech Tuesday: All About User Experience!

Hello and Happy Tech Tuesday! Here’s what’s going on in our world!

Special days, events, and more on our diversity and inclusion radar:

How Katherine Dunham and Dance from the African Diaspora Change Lives | If Cities Could Dance

🎥 Almost a year ago, I (Sharee) was an Assistant Director and Field Producer for an episode of KQED Arts’ multi-award-winning dance documentary series, If Cities Could Dance.

💃🏾 Our piece honors Katherine Dunham, an African American dance choreographer dubbed the “Mother of Dance” and brilliant, fearless, creative trailblazer who invested her time, heart, and resources into the East St. Louis community.

🎉 I have AMAZING news to share about this project: the season our episode is a part of has been nominated for The Webby Awards - the Oscars of the Internet - in the travel and lifestyle category!

🗳 It would mean a lot if you could help us win a “People’s Voice” Award! Cast your vote for If Cities Could Dance here before midnight on April 21st. You can watch the full episode by clicking the thumbnail above. Let's bring this 🏆 home to STL!

Take a look at what Nerdy Diva and its Founder are up to:

📚 Last week, our Founder Shanae Chapman earned a certificate of completion for Delta CX’s workshop on Transforming Toward Customer Centricity.

The session focused on defining what it means to be customer-centric or “user-obsessed,” along with how to combine customer-centricity with the desire to be efficient, agile, lean, innovative, and experimental.

📝 Following are Shanae’s notes from the session:

📑 Shanae’s Thought: An example is Open Source Users (OSS) and paid customers.

👩🏾‍💻 Shanae’s Work: I'm in the process of creating a UX Research Roadmap for the next 90 days, separate from the delivery team deliverables. The data from my research will then ideally feed into the next Product Roadmap.

📉 In Shanae’s Experience: There are never enough Researchers available. Research is happening outside of the UXR teams so consider ways to provide guidance for ad-hoc research (with playbooks, report-outs, pairing, advising, etc).

Shanae’s Tips: Balance time commitment and workload management by hiring and growing the UXR team plus sharing resources for ad-hoc research done by colleagues. Consider professional development programs for up-skilling non-researchers on best practices.

🤩 If you want to learn how to produce high quality products and services that meet and exceed customers’ real needs, sign up for Debbie’s next workshop in July!
