New rules to govern your club

This year's AGM - 8.00pm Wednesday, 11th May - is set to be one of the more important in the club's recent history.

Firstly, the membership will vote on a new set of club rules.  The changes reflect the way the club has grown in recent years both in terms of scale and diversity.  It is not long ago since the senior men (all there was) and the juniors were effectively run as separate entities, and we huddled in a cosy hut after games played on a sloping bog.

Amongst other things, the new rules recognise that while on the one hand, all aspects of the club - senior men and women, junior boys and girls, Minis, Touch, commercial, financial and communications - need strong teams to run them, on the other, the overall management of the club needs focus.

You can have a look at the new rules you will be voting on by clicking here.

Secondly, as well as reporting on the past year, the leadership team will reflect on how we have performed against the last five year's strategic plan and present the vision for the next five.  Again, this is your chance to input and have your say.

The formal call to the AGM with the complete agenda will be forthcoming from the Membership Secretary in the next few days.

Tonight's 1st XV game cancelled

The rematch of the COVID-cancelled game against KCS Old Bys scheduled for this evening has been cancelled.  At the third time of asking, KCS cannot raise a team and so concede the points.

Vandals do us proud

The Farnham Vandals - our U23s - faced Old Reedonians last Saturday as many of the lads returned from uni for the holidays.  While the OR's team reflected the upper echelons of the age group, our team was bolstered with a number of Academy players. Coming second in the contest was no disgrace for the lads in the black and white and, thanks to the hard work of Dominic Parker, rugby was undoubtedly the winner.

Dates for the diary

Friday - Sportsman's Lunch.  NB during this week parking will be restricted as the team puts up the marquee.

Saturday - 1st XV away at Cobham for the final game of the season.  All other senior men's teams are away. 3.00pm KO

Sunday - Not much happening at the club as the Mini's attend festivals and the Junior's compete in their Waterfall Cup Finals (girls and boys) hosted by other clubs about the county.

Monday 2nd May: Ballot for 2022 Autumn Internationals Closes (see story below)

Sunday 8th May: U14s Touch Tournament - from 10.00am to lunchtime. We host Alton, Winchester, Trojans and Richmond.

Wednesday 11th May: Annual General Meeting.

Saturday 15th May - all day:  The Farnham Sevens featuring men, women's and touch competitions.

Falcon's walking tall

Further to a brief mention in the last edition, a Falcon’s collective swooped down to the club on a Saturday morning, with the end sight being a solid 22km away. In tow with a GIANT “egg” and spoon.
Through the North Downs, The Falcons had been stopped on many occasions to talk about the event and the clubs support of local charities.
With the sun beating down and the miles climbing up, each member of the team rallied behind one and other to reach the final line.
Four of the Falcons ended up braving a final game of the season against Crawley, no signs of weakness! A total of £520 raised for Phyllis Tuckwell and a memorable weekend for the Falcons. Well done to all!

Phyllis Tuckwell is one of two official club charities - the other being Woodlarks Campsite Trust. You can find out more about these two brilliant local organisations and donate at:

From our Hon Ticket Sec, Ed Simpson.

I will only be running a ballot for the two highlighted games. The RFU will put the first two games on general sale (date tbc).

England v Argentina, Sunday 6 November, KO TBC
England v Japan, Saturday 12 November, KO TBC
England v New Zealand, Saturday 19 November, KO TBC
England v South Africa, Saturday 26 November, KO TBC

Applications close on the evening of Monday, 2 May. You will be notified whether or not you are successful in the ballot the following week. Payments for tickets must be made by 10 June or your entry is forfeit.

Sometimes we are allocated an odd number of tickets and so by entering the ballot you acknowledge you may get three tickets. These will usually be relatively low value seats.  NB a pair of tickets may cost up to £348 plus the club’s £7.00 handling fee.

The balloted matches are:

1    England v New Zealand,    Sat         19/11/22
2    England v South Africa,      Sat        26/1122

Please indicate in your entry the preference for games. If you only want to enter the ballot for one specific game, then just put that one number in your entry. Ballot entrants may be allocated no more than one pair of tickets per series.

NB Only one ballot entry per family and entrants must be 18 or over (though U18s may of course use the tickets!). Occasionally junior tickets (15 years and under) are available at a reduced price so please indicate whether, if successful, you would like one of these as part of an adult and junior pair.
