Event Recap: ECC Events During NYC's '22 Car-Free Earth Day!
On Saturday, April 23rd, NYC celebrated Car Free Earth Day. The annual car-free event took place across the five boroughs—connecting over 100 Open Streets, 22 plazas, and accessing 1,000+ miles of the NYC Bike Network! Empire Clean Cities was activated in the Bronx at Fordham Plaza and along 34th Avenue in Jackson Heights, Queens. We spread the word about clean transit and school buses, as well as the negative effects of vehicle idling. Thank you to everyone who attended the events, and stay tuned for more family friendly events throughout the summer in New York City and beyond!
Stakeholder Spotlight on Nuvve!
ECC's Stakeholder Spotlight series features our clean transportation stakeholders, showcasing their roles in clean energy advocacy, acceleration and adoption.

Meet Justyne Lobello, Marketing Director at Nuvve!

"Nuvve’s expertise in the electrification of transportation ecosystem allows us to support fleets of all types," says Justyne. "We help lower the total cost of ownership for EVs, help integrate renewables to the grid in a more reliable way, and provide services using stored energy in EV batteries to stabilize the grid and prevent blackouts."

How does Justyne think the region's transportation landscape will change in the next decade—and what role will Nuvve play in that transformation? "With New York City’s aggressive net-zero carbon goals by 2050, EVs must be integrated into the grid intelligently in a way that does not put added strain on the already stressed electric infrastructure. By using Nuvve’s V2G system, fleets, the city, and utilities can use EVs to provide benefits to the grid and entire communities."

Thanks Justyne! Be sure to check out Nuvve's work on their website and follow them on LinkedIn!
The New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program is Looking For New Scrappage Facilities
NYSERDA is on the lookout for eligible New York scrappage facilities to participate in the New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program (NYTVIP)! Scrappage is a key element of the NYTVIP, as the scrappage and subsequent recycling of pre-2009 vehicles makes way for newer, zero-emissions replacement vehicles—and ensures that the older vehicle does not enter service with another operator. If you are a New York scrappage facility who would be interested in participating in the program, please reach out to the voucher help center at NYTVIP@energycenter.org.
U.S. Department of Transportation Highlights a Year of Key Climate Accomplishments on Earth Day 2022
Last Friday—the 50th Earth Day to be celebrated in the U.S.—the U.S. Department of Transportation recognized the agency’s key accomplishments in the last year in support of the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to fight climate change and advance environmental justice. Here are some of the key accomplishments of the Department over the past year:
  • Accelerating the growth of a national electric vehicle (EV) charging network with a $5 billion investment over five years to allow states to build out the backbone of a national EV charging network along the nation’s highway system
  • Providing cleaner, more convenient public transit thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law enormous investment in public transportation—the largest of its type in history—including a $5.5 billion expansion of the Low- and No-Emission Vehicle Program
  • Distributing new funding for transit agencies through the American Rescue Plan with $2.2 billion in funding to 35 transit agencies across 18 states
  • Raised passenger vehicle fuel economy standards, will save consumers nearly $1,400 in total fuel expenses over the lifetimes of vehicles produced in 2024-2026 and reduce consumption of about 234 billion gallons of gas between model years 2030 to 2050
