Pesach Day 7

We won’t be having a Pesach Day 7 evening service this evening, but we will be participating in the SAUPJ National Unity Passover Service at 09h30 on Friday morning. Please join us in the Shul, or on Zoom using the link below:

Happening this Shabbat

We’re back to our usual Shabbat rhythm this week, with our Kabbalat Shabbat service in the Shul (and on Zoom) at 18h00, followed by a Brocha in the Janks Hall.
Our full Shabbat morning service will be on the Veranda or in the Boardroom, depending on the weather, and will be followed by a Brocha in the Atrium. While the service will also be on Zoom, it’s best enjoyed in person.

Pesach Seder

Our Communal Pesach Seder was by all accounts a great success, with about 50 people participating, plus a Zoom component for those who couldn’t make it in person. Here are some pictures taken at the Seder, courtesy of Ruth Challens.

Repairing the World

Thanks to all those who supported our outreach efforts this week, including our (almost) Chametz-free Sarmies Project, and our KZN Appeal. The response to that was overwhelming, with +/- 5-6 carloads full of blankets and clothing having been donated.

What’s On at Beit Emanuel

Please click on the link below for the full programme of activities happening at Beit Emanuel over the period April through June 2022.

What’s On at Beit Emanuel 2022 Q2

We’ll be publishing a slightly revised version of the programme in the near future.

More on upcoming events

We’ve included below inserts for a variety of upcoming events, both internal and from the wider Jewish community, including the following:
  • The Youth Shabbaton and Sleepover next Shabbat, as well as the visit by the African Leadership Academy (ALA) on the Friday evening.
  • Our ARZENU Beit Emanuel Yom Ha’Atzmaut celebration on Friday, 6 May, with ARZENU sponsoring the Brocha that evening.
  • The Jewish communal events for Yom Hashoah, Yom Hazikaron and Yom Ha’Atzmaut

Board of Guardians Vacancy

You may recall that there were no nominations for the single vacancy on the Board of Guardians at our AGM in March. Constitutionally, this vacancy is required to be filled. Andrew Jacobs, who served on Mancom until the AGM, has now agreed to put his name forward for nomination to the BoG. In order to comply with our Constitution, however, we need to formally call for nominations once again, and hold an election at a Special General Meeting (SGM), which will be held via Zoom on Thursday, 12 May 2022. The nomination forms for BoG can be found here (Word and PDF respectively):

Nomination Form Board of Guardians 2022 (Word)

Nomination Form Board of Guardians 2022 (PDF)

The form should be downloaded/printed, completed/signed by the proposer/seconder and nominee and returned to me by close of business on Thursday, 5 May 2022.

Shabbat Shalom and Moadim L’Simcha!

HOUSEKEEPING

Staying in touch

We know that, when you’re moving house, letting the Shul know about your change of address may not be top of mind. Once you’ve settled in, though, please just drop us a note so that we can stay in touch with you. These are the contact detail changes we’d really like to know about. Please let Morgana know about these and she’ll inform the rest of us.
  • Mobile (cellphone) number
  • Email address
  • Home street address
  • Home landline number (or cancellation thereof)
JKIDS/YOUTH PROGRAMMES

Jkids Club Shabbat Activity

We’ve been a little disappointed at the turnout for our Jkids Club Shabbat activities every second week. The team will be taking some time out over the school break to regroup and strategise, as well as working with those with marketing know-how. We’ll see you again after the break, with some new ideas for content and improving attendance.
