Give us a smile!
16 May – 16 June is National Smile Month.
This is a fantastic opportunity to remind the communities that you work with of the following important messages.
- Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes, with fluoride toothpaste.
- Floss between your teeth or use an interdental brush every day.
- Aim for a healthy lifestyle, including eating well, not smoking and limiting your alcohol and sugar intake. The B&NES Community Wellbeing Hub can help with this: https://communitywellbeinghub.co.uk/ Check out the fun resources for families on eating well and reducing sugar here https://www.nhs.uk/healthier-families/food-facts/
- Brush baby teeth as soon as they come through: Here are tips on looking after your baby's teeth, including the importance of avoiding sweetened foods and drinks.
- Get children into a teeth-cleaning routine: Read more about how to look after your children's teeth.
- Have regular dental check-ups. Very few people enjoy going to the dentist, but finding problems early can mean they're easier to treat. A wide range of dental treatments are readily available on the NHS. Find your local dentist: https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-dentist
To find out if you are eligible for free dentistry, visit: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/dentists/who-is-entitled-to-free-nhs-dental-treatment-in-england/
