NEWLY DISCOVERED ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE SHOWS 11-YEAR-OLD PRINCE SUPPORTING TEACHERS’ STRIKE

Local Minneapolis radio and television station WCCO, was recently going through their archives when they found rare film footage from a Minneapolis Public School educators’ strike that took place in April 1970. The footage was meant to be extracted and restored to create context for a recent strike that happened in the same district. THE CURRYS UNVEIL FIRST OF 150 LITTLE TOWN LIBRARIES COMBATING LOW LITERACY RATES IN OAKLAND

Last September, Ayesha and Stephen Curry launched a new bus mobile under their Eat.Learn.Play Foundation umbrella. The bus acted as both a food truck and library, providing healthy meals for those in need on one side and books on the other, outfitted with TV’s, a rooftop deck and a basketball hoop. While the Currys started off hoping to eradicate food deserts in the Oakland area, they are now expanding their work to also tackle low literacy rates in the region.  Read more.

JANICE PETTYJOHN BECOMES FIRST WOMAN HIRED FOR FULL-TIME FOOTBALL POSITION AT HOWARD UNIVERSITY

Janice Pettyjohn has made history as the first woman to be hired for a full-time football position at Howard University. Pettyjohn’s love for arts has always taken precedence since health issues prevented her from playing youth sports as a child. But as she got older and went on to attend Lumberton Middle School, she realized she had to find some way to get involved in the school’s extracurricular activities. Read more.
