Emergence companies will join the Atlantic Canada delegation of companies going to BIO International Convention in San Diego, June 13-16th. Save the date for our next Office Hours, Thursday, May 19th at 12 PM ADT, to hear about NSERC Alliance funding opportunities for research and development projects in natural science and engineering. An export survey was sent out to Emergence companies to capture their cumulative economic impact. The next round of Emergence mentorship program sessions is also in the works.

Two Emergence companies win excellence awards
At the Greater Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce 2022 President's Excellence Awards, two Emergence companies were honoured. Stepscan, on their 10th anniversary, won Excellence in Small Business Award. BioTraceIT won the Innovation Excellence Award.

New BMI offers a space to build companies and talent
PEI BioAlliance opened their new $6.5M biomanufacturing incubator in Charlottetown in March. This 20,000 sq.ft. facility comprises six fully-serviced, self-contained units to support pilot-scale manufacturing of bio-based products. Emergence client Chinova Bioworks is scaling up their manufacturing operation at the facility. The Canadian Alliance for Skills and Training (CASTL) received $3.1M to set up a new biopharmaceutical manufacturing skills and training centre within the BMI which will be a valuable resource in building talent. story

Accepting applications for the Ignition Fund
Innovation PEI is accepting applications from entrepreneurs seeking start-up capital for a new business venture or to develop and launch a new innovative product. The deadline for applications is May 2nd. more There is a virtual information session on April 27th, 12:00 p.m. register

Get first pick at the best and brightest students
Universities are seeking opportunities for their co-op students. Hiring students is an important investment in building the next generation of talent, including bachelor's and master's students, and many already have work experience. Wage subsidies are available. NPC launches report and will host virtual pitch sessions
NPC launched a first-of-its-kind report on Canada's insect agriculture industry, entitled Game Changers. Download They are also hosting two virtual pitch sessions related to functional mushrooms for health and nutrition, and natural beauty. more

ISED offers CyberSecure Canada certification program for SMEs
CyberSecure Canada is the nation's cybersecurity certification program. Find out why SMEs should make cyber security a priority and how they can become certified. more

Mitacs programs support research and innovation
Mitacs provides funding to support interns (college, undergraduate, MSc, PhD, PDF or recent graduates) to work with companies who have a research or innovation problem to overcome. Their most common grants include Accelerate (Accelerate) and Business Strategy Internship (Business Strategy Internship). Applications are open any time. Auxly shares their playlist and product updates
Auxly is our first Emergence company with its own Spotify playlist #DosecannRestStop. They recently introduced Dosecann Omega CBD 2800 that's exclusively formulated using Ahiflower oil and natural lemon lavender flavouring. Dosecann brand puts the number on their bottles which represents the total mg of the named cannabinoid it contains and a built-in dropper to make it easier to control doses. Bactana received grant from National Science Foundation
Bactana has been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase One grant that will enable expanded research and development efforts for its leading therapeutic candidate, FPZ-100. more

CAT expands to meet demand for genetic improvement programs
CAT has added three new leading scientists to their breeding team. Recently, CAT partnered with Earth Ocean Farms in Baja, Mexico on a first-of-its-kind improvement program to boost productivity and promote faster growth for Pacific red snapper. more CAT took part in Aquaculture 2022 and AquaFuture Spain in March. Alan Tinch and Mark Braceland will present at Aquaculture UK in May. They are featuring a new video on the benefits of genetic improvement in aquaculture.

Chinova Bioworks wins $1.5M to help reduce food waste
Chinova Bioworks won $1.5M from Sustainable Development Technology Canada to help reduce food waste. more They have also been busy participating and presenting at food events: Future Food Tech, Research Chefs Association conference, Natural Products Expo WestBakery ShowcaseSupply Side East and SIAL Canada

EVAH secures investment
EVAH Corp. is pleased to announce that world-leading pork and poultry producer Vall Companys Group and its subsidiary Infervareal S.A. have invested in them. This investment will help power EVAH’s technological developments and expand their foothold as an animal health business/innovation hub. more

Eversea expanding its international reach
Eversea announced that they were granted a new patent (Organic Omega-3) in Japan. more They have also signed an agreement with E3Live, one the organic industry's premier superfood brands, to market Eversea's omega-3 DHA products to its customer base. more

Island Abbey Foods collaborating on study
Island Abbey Foods is collaborating with UPEI's Dr. Marya Ahmed to evaluate antibacterial, antioxidant, and inflammatory efficacies of honey and bioactives extracted from honey gummies. more HR Director Denise Gallant talks about the variety of job opportunities with their company. more The next time you are on Netflix, check out Season 4 of Drive to Survive, episode 6. Natures Crops shared on social that they are seeking B Corp Certification which is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability and transparency factors from employee benefits and charitable given to supply chain practices and input materials.
