The Giver Opens Next

April 29-May 22, 2022
Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sundays at 2:30 pm
Adapted by Eric Coble from the Newbery Award-winning book by Lois Lowry
Directed by Michael Jorizzo

ACT has a long history of presenting plays adapted from popular novels - think Alice in Wonderland, The Boxcar Children, and The Grapes of Wrath just to name a few. We're excited to continue this tradition with The Giver, adapted from the 1994 novel by Lois Lowry

Do you know the story? It takes place in a society where everything seems perfect. There is no war or fear or pain. There are also no choices. Every person in the community is assigned a job, a spouse, even which children they will raise. Jonas is apprehensive about turning 12; that's when her profession will be assigned. She is chosen for special training with The Giver and will receive and keep the memories of the community. Now Jonas will learn the truth about life - and discover what it means to grow up, to grow wise, and to take control of your own destiny.
