As war ravages Ukraine, this is an important moment to strengthen the Fulbright Program, a bulwark for peace and understanding. Each spring, hundreds of Fulbright Association members advocate to Congress to fund the Program. I invite you to join with us as a united voice for peace.

We need your voice to help make a significant “ask” to Congress after 12 years of flat funding, taking the Program from $275 million a year to $403 million. This is our most ambitious ask ever, but members of Congress won’t listen unless they hear from you, their constituents.

We now advocate digitally, which has allowed us to be more inclusive of those who can’t afford the time or expense of traveling to Washington. Last year, we had teams from states far away from DC, like Alaska and Hawaii. You always advocate as a team, and your role is to tell the story of your Fulbright and its impact. Your team leader will manage the conversation and make the “ask.”

Advocating by Zoom also makes scheduling more flexible and less burdensome to our members. Advocates commit to (a) a training session on April 26 at Noon Eastern, or seeing the video afterwards, (b) a planning meeting with your team, and (c) an advocacy meeting with a congressional office—all online from wherever you are. These will take place in April and May, coordinated by the Association’s national office.
