UNHRC passes FOUR anti-Israel resolutions compared with ONE against Russia

Whilst Russia was condemned in only one resolution by the UN Human Rights Council for its invasion of Ukraine, the global body condemned the Jewish state in four resolutions during the latest round of Israel-bashing.

The UK sat on the fence in a vote calling for an arms embargo against Israel, but voted against all three resolutions under Agenda Item 7.

An embargo on truth: Why failing to stand up for Israel at the UN is a vote for the aggressor

"Countries that voted against Israel at the UNHRC should hang their head in shame. As for the UK, it simply isn’t good enough to sit on the fence. But Britain can do something right now to help Israel. Something Israel wants and needs. It can say no to the embargo on truth."

CUFI Prayer

The terror attack in Tel Aviv

Pray for the friends and family of all three victims murdered in the terror attack at a bar in Tel Aviv on Thursday evening. Pray for those wounded in the attack, some of whom are in a critical condition.

Among the victims was Barak Lufan a 35-year-old father of three, who competed in London 2012 as an Olympian and was a coach for Israel's national Kayak team and Paralympic team.

Two others were childhood friends, Tomer Morad and Eytam Magini, both aged 27. They met up at the popular bar to celebrate Eytam's engagement to his fiancee. We pray for all these affected families with broken hearts.

Upon this moment of devastating terror, celebration in Tel Aviv was turned into mourning, joy into tears of sorrow. At the same time, it was horrific to see celebrations in Gaza and West Bank BECAUSE of the same terror attack.

The contrast couldn't be more painful. But we look to the day with great hope, when instead of weeping and sorrow, the streets of Israel will be filled with jubilation; there will be dancing of joy; there will be laughter at the goodness of God; praise will be proclaimed out of Jerusalem across the earth, but the enemies of Israel will be brought to judgment, they will be brought low from their puffed up antisemitic mockery, having turned themselves against the God of Israel and HIs people, and will face their fate once and for all. Pray, however, that many will choose a path of righteousness rather than this path against Israel and the Jewish people.

"Then shall the young women rejoice in the dance,
    and the young men and the old shall be merry.
I will turn their mourning into joy;
    I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow."

Jeremiah 30:13

The IDF Chief of Staff said, "We will get to every neighbourhood, every street, every home or basement in order to get our hands on the terrorists. We will operate everywhere, using every method, to stop the wave of terrorism." We pray life into these words as we intercede for Israel at this time.

These past few weeks, Israel has thwarted 15 significant terror attacks. It illustrates the magnitude of the problem that Israel faces, and it also shows the restraint that Israel shows in an effort to maintain calm and harmony. May we faithfully continue to uphold Israel in prayer, remembering the IDF, Shin Bet security personnel, Israeli police, government officials, medical emergency services and others who need foresight, strength and wisdom at this time.

This Sunday (Palm Sunday) in the traditional Church calendar, we recall Jesus's entry into Jerusalem. As Jesus approached Jerusalem, He wept over the city, foreseeing the terror that would come upon it and its people when destroyed by the Romans. May we have a heart like Jesus towards Zion; a deep love for the Holy City and for the Jewish people; a heart that is moved to weep with those who weep, and rejoice with those who rejoice. And, following Jesus's example from that moment, may we pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

The situation in Ukraine

The images that have emerged from war-torn towns and cities in Ukraine together with people's witness statements are truly shocking. It is difficult to fully comprehend how such cruelty and unjustifiable mistreatment can be inflicted upon our fellow human beings. Despite these experiences, we pray that those who are going through pain and suffering, will find rest and healing. That those who have lost homes will find safe havens. Those who have witnessed atrocities will gain health of mind. Those who have felt fear, will experience overwhelming peace. We pray for children whose childhoods have been disrupted, that they will find stability and a bright future. That those who have lost loved ones or are separated from family, will find comfort. Those who have been weakened physically or mentally will be strengthened. We pray for all the hands and feet meeting these needs. For Church missions, Jewish movements, field hospitals, aid organisations, ordinary people serving on the ground. For CUFI's 'Refuge in Zion' campaign. We pray that God will move among the people of Ukraine at this time and that many will be blessed and overcome.

In a spiritual sense, the Bible reminds us that when the Enemy of God, Satan, attempts an attack, the love of Christ doesn't just match the assault, He overwhelming overcomes it. There is no scheme of the Enemy capable of prevailing over and above the love of God.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
As it is written:
“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 8:35-39

We pray that the people of Ukraine will experience the love of God at this time.
Pray too that the invasion will see genuine retreat.
Continue to pray for President Zelensky and his family.

UK at the United Nations

Pray for Britain's support for Israel at the United Nations. Last week at the UN Human Rights Council, there were four resolutions against Israel, compared with just one for countries such as North Korea, Iran, Belarus and Russia. Britain voted against three resolutions (in favour of Israel) but abstained on the resolution that called for an arms embargo against Israel.

Pray that the UK will have the boldness to vote AGAINST ALL resolutions that come against Israel and lead by example so that the UNHRC will know that Israel has allies that are not prepared to tolerate such biased and prejudicial attempts to demonise Israel.

Cyberattacks

CUFI UK was targeted by two separate cyberattacks this week by Islamist groups, propagating anti-Israel messaging. We praise the Lord that our security firm successfully resolved the attacks swiftly and securely. It is a reminder that we are at the frontline in the battle for truth. Please pray for the work of CUFI and that any further cyberattack attempts will fail.

Thank you for praying with us. We close with a reminder in the Psalms that God is King and hears the cry of the humble:

The Lord is King forever and ever;
The nations have perished out of His land.
Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble;
You will prepare their heart;
You will cause Your ear to hear,
To do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,
That the man of the earth may oppress no more.

Psalm 10:16-18
